Giants release Josh Freeman

Up till Schiano, anyway.

Year one he did well under Schiano. God knows what happened year two under Schiano.

As a back up Freeman could be a useful addition. He's a big guy, big arm, and fairly athletic. He could be worth a pick up, though with Anderson and Webb I'm not sure we'll be looking.

It's going to be interesting to who picks him up. Texans to push Fitzpatrick? Rams to compete with/back up Bradford? Cardinals to see if he still has it in him to develop into a good QB, perhaps to replace Palmer?

Remember Panther fans (if it hasn't been said already): This is the same guy, that brought Tampa bay back with under 60 seconds left, marching Tampa Bay down the field, and throwing for a miraculous TD, and a Panther defeat.

Glad the Panther team, and defense recovered from that. SMH.  Whew!

No comments or speculation on Freeman with the Giants, or any other team.

Just wish him well.

So...apparently the problem...

Difficulty picking up offenses continues to plague Freeman

(Freeman's) biggest problem in New York this offseason appears to be the same as his biggest problem in Minnesota last season: He struggles to learn the offense.

Shortly before Freeman was released, Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reported that Freeman had been pulled from a practice session in place of fellow backup quarterback Curtis Painter after Freeman lined up the offense incorrectly.

At the end of the 2013 season, USA Today reported that Freeman was late for numerous meetings and often among the last players to the facility. Said one unnamed Viking, “You could tell Josh did not know the offense.”

In fairness to Freeman, the Vikings threw him into the starting lineup less than two weeks after he arrived, while the Giants gave him less than two months of the offseason. He has not had much time to learn the offense in either of his last two stops. And Freeman is only 26 years old, and showed promise in Tampa Bay, topping 4,000 yards in 2012 and throwing 25 touchdowns and only six interceptions in 2010. He has the tools to be a good quarterback.

But it will take some work for Freeman to get there, and after washing out in two different stops, there is now a real question whether any team will give him another shot.

From the sources cited...

Leslie Frazier did everything he could to sell players on his gamble, despite signs Josh Freeman wasn't ready to play less than two weeks after signing with the Minnesota Vikings in October.

"You could tell Josh did not know the offense," said one of several Vikings players who spoke to USA TODAY Sports about the situation Tuesday. The players spoke on the condition of anonymity, because they weren't supposed to discuss team business publicly.

"Practices did not really go that well that week. But Coach Frazier was in the team meetings like, 'Oh, I think this is the best week of practice we've had all year.' And everyone's like, what? What are you talking about?"

Four people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports that Freeman was late for numerous meetings in his roughly three months with the Vikings. A third player said Freeman often was among the last players to the facility.

One of Freeman's agents, Erik Burkhardt, said "anything about meetings or missing anything is false," and the only issue was Freeman played too soon.

Either way, Frazier couldn't go back once Freeman was healthy, particularly because the consensus in the locker room was Cassel should have kept the job after he led the Vikings to their first win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 29, three weeks before Freeman's debut.

"I feel bad for Josh getting thrown in so quickly," the first player said.

Freeman bombed against the New York Giants on national television Oct. 21, completing 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards with an interception in a 23-7 loss, then reported concussion symptoms the next day and never played again.

USA Today

Freeman appeared to be little more than the camp arm the Giants were trying to sell him as after they signed him this offseason. During one drill, Freeman lined up the offense incorrectly and the play was never run. He was immediately subbed out, with Painter taking his place.

NJ.com

If you're gonna look at him, you'd probably wanna investigate those stories about him being late to meetings and such.

If they're nothing, well and good.  If they're valid though, I wouldn't bother.
