Give Me the Low Down on Charlotte, NC

lol ok

anyone else?

So those cities are the same size and same age as Charlotte?

Keeping in mind Charlotte is the south (slavery, tenement homes, Jim Crow) I'd rather not have too much of a historic area. I prefer current Brevard Street over 1920s Brevard Street.

eta: Concord and Kannapolis have dozens of shuttered textile mills. Do we really need 30 more in Charlotte to boast about history?

Asked the question, I gave an answer that's legitimate (if you've ever been to those places), and yet you still whine...

The reason we don't have a "historic downtown" is because downtown is really like 20 years old. But there are a crapload of museums and such now.

Wells Fargo History Museum, mint museum, Harvey Gantt thingy (you can use their wifi when tailgating), some modern art museum

Can't argue with this. Even our first home playoff game in 5 years had 15,000 Forty Niner fans. fugers.

It was literally me against about 30 of those idiots where I was sitting. Let's just say I was in rare form that day.

You have no point on the museums and structures. We have a crapload of museums and way too many damn art galleries. Things like Latta Park, Liberty Hall Monument, Settler’s Cemetery represent some of the history of Charlotte. And there are lots of tours you can do to experience old Charlotte. None of which I would ever do anyway.

But of course it will be less evident than Boston and San Francisco areas which are like 4x as big. May as well add in NYC and DC for comparison.

Similar sized cities would be like Orlando, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Sacramento, Portland etc...

The nation's first gold rush was actually in Charlotte years before the California gold rush. Pretty cool, really.

Charlotte was once known as the City of Churches because of its religious diversity.

Stuff like that...

the gold rush was more concord than charlotte.

Charlotte declared independence 14 months before the rest of the colonies... it was kind of a hornet's nest

Um, okay. Whatever. It's your city, just trying to help you make it relevant.

I'm a Yankee Asshat and I love Charlotte. Won't hear me say a bad word about it. The only knock on it I ever had was the pace was sooooo slooooooow and no good places to eat but that has changed a lot since I moved down here many, many years ago.

I would highly recommend living in Charlotte to anyone and would purchase again.

I think Charlotte could have preserved more historic facades in uptown but agree it's not much different than other cities. I.e. Charlotte:Nashville, South Park:Belle Meade, Noda:The gulch, Fort Mill:Franklin, etc.

I've said before there's plenty of stuff to not be bored but growing up there makes me want to try different spots. I mean I live in DC rt now without having to use the beltway and it's hard to beat.

I enjoy the lakes, proximity to the mtns, plaza mid, golf, whitewater center, Panthers...plenty of stuff to do. Music scene is lacking though imo

Local music scene is definitely struggling.

Not sure what relevance has to do with anything and why you would try to help us with it. But Charlotte is no more irrelevant than most of its peer cities.

The question for you is what makes Charlotte culture so bad. So far the only item you have is lack of a historic district which is debatable but I'll give you credit for the sake of discussion. There must be more than that. So let's hear it.
