Give Me the Low Down on Charlotte, NC

There's just no real draw to the city. There are so many more smaller cities around that have much better selling points than Charlotte- Greenville SC, Charleston, Asheville..

The last two I could maybe understand...but Greenville? Really?

I've been to a couple restaurants and other places that specifically remind me of Greenville, SC. And I think they've done a great job with the gentrification and redesign of the downtown area.

Charlotte? As many places over the many, many years I've been going there... nothing strikes me as uniquely Charlotte. Nothing says, "I want to bring ________ to Charlotte to see this."

To the OP there are a few posters who will go head over heels to bust Charlotte. I think they got picked on By Charlotte as a kid or something. But the fact is it is a great town. And there is plenty of culture. Many people wouldn't know culture if it blew a load in their face.

As far as areas to live it really depends on your needs and budget. If you want a $1m house close to town you can get something in Dilworth and walk to Panthers games.

I live in Davidson which is a wonderful place to live with great schools but the commute is probably longer than you want.

Could be...

In my case, however, I got jaded pretty quickly with Charlotte. People rarely appreciate where they live. Broadway isn't full of New Yorkers; its full of tourists. The same can be said of Las Vegas casinos, Hollywood Boulevard, the Alamo, Niagara Falls, etc.

Locals usually don't appreciate what tourists want to see. I remember some random stranger stopped me on a sidewalk uptown and asked me what's there for a tourist to see/do. I drew a blank. He then did a little prodding, asking about local history museums... slowly, the lightbulb started coming on. Levine was about 3 blocks away.

If you're raising a family, or plan on it in the near future, Charlotte is a great place to live.

If you're single and want to live in a city with culture, run away from Charlotte as fast as you can.

which is why I wanna move to San Diego after school then return when I'm in my late 20s
