Friday NBA Draft Workouts

Would hate Hood being picked at 9.

Don't think he will be much of an impact player or go to scorer in the nba.

If he didn't wear Duke on his chest, he wouldn't be considered there.

Were trading back. I'm not sure if we can move up....but the 9th and 24th for a pick in the mid teens and a vet.

Here's an observation of note. Both the Timberwolves and the Jazz pick between our 9th and 24th pick. Minny at 13 and Utah at 23. Both teams give us potential sign and trade options: Minny with Love, and Utah with Heyward. For love we'd have to give up both picks and probably MKG and Zeller (which I'm ok with), and for Heyward we're looking at giving up the 9th, MKG, and Hendo (I'm also ok with).

The only scenario that I could see us trading up is if Marcus Smart falls to the 7th pick then we'd probably have the firepower to trade up two spots with the 9th and 24th and maybe Hendo.

I say there is about a 0% chance we trade MKG. Our team defense completely falls apart without him. Now if we were bringing in an Ibaka type player maybe we could lose him. However, as it stands now he can't go anywhere.

It really all evens out with his horrible offense.

The offense would improve immensely if we had a SG that could hit the three consistently. Also kemba shooting above 40% would be nice as well.

Well that's all affected by having MKG on the floor.  When the defense has a 5 on 4 advantage shooting percentages tend to slip for the rest of the team.  In basketball I'll take a great offense over a great defense just about any day of the week.  It would be awesome if MKG was a power forward. Generally opposing SF's represent a critical defender....they can usually defend guards or help on doubles in the post.  When you have a utility defender that can just leave MKG alone on the perimeter and free range help on our scorers it causes a problem.   MKG might be responsible for preventing 8 points a game, but he's costing us about 15 a game on offense.

Well I think his negative impact on the offense gets overblown a lot. He really isn't that bad an offensive player. Yeah he can't shoot but he is a great finisher and offensive rebounder. If we had a competent offensive scheme that encouraged him to slash/cut to the basket for easy buckets when teams ignored him it would do wonders for his confidence and in turn his game/stats. As it is now all we seem capable of calling is Al postups and kemba "bail us out". Now I'll admit I'm a big mkg fan so I'm probably being over homerish but those are my thoughts on the subject.

I think MKG's impact on our defense is a little overrated by some posters here. He is a wonderful individual and team defender and I'm not clamoring a trade for him or anything like that (I'm still holding out that Price will get him a serviceable shot), but he only averaged 24 minutes per game, and rarely played in the fourth quarter.

Is he important and a nice piece to have? Absolutely.

Is he the cog holding our team together? I don't believe so.

MKG definitely has some positives, but that hitch in his jumper will never be fixed.  I've never seen a guy with a form like his turn it around.  Same thing for guys who are bad on the free throw line...they're just always bad at the charity stripe.

As far as his positives:

He has great length and athleticism.  He's good at finishing on the fast break.  He's a solid rebounder. He's a good not great individual defender. He would be a great piece if all he was expected to be was a role player or if he could make a defense pay for playing off.

All in all....he was probably over drafted because he benefited from a great Kentucky team.  If we kept him I wouldn't be sad, but I just happen to think our best return on investment would be to trade him because he still has "upside."

Once again he has some positives, he deserves to be in the NBA....he's just replaceable for us, and we could probably use him to slingshot ourselves forward.

I understand where you are coming from I just don't want us to trade him and he puts it all together somewhere else.
