voth on OTA tweeting ban

Recommended Posts

Everyone looks like a starter when they are running around in shorts.  Analyzing anything at OTAs other than whether a guy is in shape or not seems pointless.

Well, I am not a fan over over analyzing OTA's but there is more to it than that.

Individual WR/CB matchups are fun to watch. Looking at the different package personnel is interesting.

I love training camp information. I love when guys do write ups, I love fluff pieces, I love it all. But I do not love the play by play tweets. I feel like people are too worried about working their cell phones. They should be consuming the practice and taking notes. Thinking about the article they will write that night and how they can make it worth reading.

The tweet threads are so hard to read too. You get 5 identical tweets followed by 3 pages of overreaction.

Training camp is a fun time of year but all the information that comes out is for entertainment purposes only. No one should get mad when Armanti running a good route doesn't translate in the regular season.

I absolutely love training camp tweets.

For those of us that can't be there, it gives us a way to follow the action at close to real time. Sure, you have to filter out the bs, but that is still better than waiting until the evening when someone finally gets around to posting a report.

I would be willing to bet that the 1st few days of camp "tweet threads" are very highly viewed.

views range from 6k and as much as 20k. and i know it is definitely appreciated because i usually end up turning off notifications because of the amount of pie received. for whatever reason, it urks me to see that red square and not click on it.

i understand the work involved with trying to observe, shoot pics, and tweet at the same time (it's enough of a pain in the butt to follow twitter and copy and paste to the forum)...but it's obvious the effort is greatly appreciated by a lot of people.

Perhaps.  But there are actually people who think there is some type of dept chart at work and you can actually forecast who is going to start based on OTAs.  There is a lot of over emphasizing of things that have hardly any meaning when it comes to OTAs.

I like to see the video and pics that are posted. Its fun but i dont care if its a tweet or a article I just wanna see the players and how they look. None of it matters for game day but it is interesting to see, hope, cheer, and analyse the stuff that comes out!

Like it or not, twitter is a huge part of media and getting information out there. Which is why print media is dying.

You are right, to a degree.  I went to an OTA and was able to watch the (then rookie) Beason playing MLB during a goal line drill. His first step was quick and he found the hole before the back did (no contact) on most plays.  I knew he was going to be good.  Then I watched the team passing sessions.  I wrote on another site that Dwayne Jarrett looked sluggish and confused.  Smitty was all over him.  He ran half speed routes and watched the play when he did not think he was getting the ball. Frankly, he looked terrible.  When I wrote that, I was dismantled by the Panther faithful.

But you are right tfor the most part.  It is really nothing more than a first peek at the rookies and a chance to see how rehab is going for a few others.
