A Little TD Appreciation

Just left the Panthers team store and saw my jerseys sitting on the rack with jake Delhomme jerseys for $5.99. Wow SMH.

Panthers WLB Thomas Davis has been diagnosed with a torn right ACL, ending his 2011 season.

This is the third straight season Davis has torn his right ACL, and it's hard to believe he'll ever play another NFL down. It's sad news for a player who was emerging as an IDP force before first tearing his ACL in Week 9 in 2009. The injury comes just one week after the Panthers lost MLB Jon Beason for the season, making it almost certain Carolina's run defense will finish as one of the league's worst. Omar Gaither, Jason Williams, Thomas Williams, and Jordan Senn are candidates to replace Davis on the weak side.

Pro Football Talk

The Panthers included an $8 million option bonus in the second season of WLB Thomas Davis' (ACL surgeries) new five-year contract.

The Panthers blew $8 million in first-year salary and bonuses on Davis, but at least protected themselves with the option. They can cut ties with Davis in 2012 by not exercising the bonus on the third day of the next league year. The alleged five-year, $36.5 million deal was actually a one-year, $8 million pact. Davis will be released next March after his third ACL tear.

NO way am I going to retire.

That is where TD was less than three years ago.

He was getting treated like this.

But he wasn't done.

Ron Rivera

“I gave our game ball today to Thomas Davis,” Rivera said of the ninth-year linebacker out of Georgia who has been slowed by three reconstructive surgeries on his right knee. “I told the team that last spring, Thomas and I sat down with our owner (Jerry Richardson) and we didn’t know exactly where Thomas was. Thomas looked me in the eye and told me he would come back. I said, ‘I’ll give you the opportunity.’

“As a head coach, when you have a guy look you in the eye, coming off three knee surgeries and he makes you believe in him, that’s what it’s all about. It really is.”

This is TD now

What Thomas has accomplished is nothing short of a miracle when you combine his injury history, age, and the level at which he is playing LB. It's almost unbelievable.

Also, that last picture brings up bittersweet memories. Hate it say it but I kinda felt like the team celebrated too much when they beat Atlanta. Had a feeling they were gonna get licked by SF. Hopefully this year they repeat as Division Champs, and instead of acting like they won the Super Bowl have a "so what" attitude and really get prepared for the playoffs. I understand last year was a big accomplishment for where the team has been in recent years and the celebration was warranted, but it hurt them in the long run.

Like to see that punk say that to his face.  TD will be a panther legend, long after his playing days here.  We'll be telling stories of the great safety turned linebacker that came back from three ACL surgeries to lead a top NFL defense.

Mad props for being the only one to let Roman Harper know that the red carpet wasn't exactly rolled out for him when he first got here.

Still underrated/unknown around the league. That needs to change. This man is all around a top 20 player in the NFL (not just talent or on-field productiveness), and yet he won't even make the top 100 voted on by players.

Never understood the attitude of some fans calling players who suffer legit injuries "pussies".  If anything, continually coming back from injury after injury proves that you're tough as fug.  Just like Dan Morgan.  Dan Morgan may have been fragile in terms of his ability to stay on the field, but I'll never question that guy's toughness.  He was as tough as they come.
