So another prescription glasses question...transition lenses...yes or no?

In my work (car sales) I am in and out a lot.  A friend of mine who does the same work has transition lenses (darken in the sun) and said she loves them.  My sister just said that her son has transition lenses and oes not like them.  Do not act like sunglasses when out of the sun.  Anyone have or have had them?  what is your experience?

I have a pair that ive had for 3 years and they change rather quickly. They can also be a pain if your outside and then go inside to read something, as they take more time to transition back.

I believe the transition lenses come in different levels. The higher the darker they become.Plust the more expensive. Maybe your freind got hers on the low side and to her eyes it appears to not be working?  I did have a pair before with them in and it was barely noticable and had no affect what so ever in limiting the pain i had when sunlight touched my eyes. But the ones i have now are great!

So what are the specs on the ones you have now?  Also what about the issue mentioned by a previous poster that they do not help in the car?  (That is an issue I could deal with I think...ways of over coming that.)

I do know though that when i got my new frames and lenses that i told them i wanted them to "get darker" and she said along the lines of, "they have improved" since i had them on the previous glasses i owned. Plus i remembering seeing a sheet showing the different shades. Came pretty close to getting the darkiest that they come in, but ultimately decided on the second to last "setting" as being in the middle didnt help me and going lighter wouldn't make no sense.  As i said before, the darker you want them to get the higher the price. Though this was a couple of years ago; i have no clue if this has changed. Its possible that they now have one type and goes for everyone type deal.

True, they don't work as well while being in a vehicle. Your constantly moving with building, mountains and other obstructions blocking the sun preventing a steady uv bombardment on your eyes thus the glasses won't change.  Just recently i had to lower the sun visor in my car do to the brightness of the sun.  I live in the appalachian mountains, so the sun light never got to hit me constantly.

They are great if you are outside.. Mine get really dark. Like others have said I wish mine would get darker in the car. Another thing I have noticed is mine take longer to transition back when it is cold outside and I go inside.

So, what is the transition like when you go inside when it is cold....and how cold?  My desk is at a  floor to ceiling window.  Not sure how the adjustment is.

I am a drivers license examiner in Hickory. Say I go outside to do a motorcycle road test when the temp is 40 degrees I usually have to take my glasses off when I get back in the office because they do not transition back as quick as they would when it is 70 degrees.

I get my glasses from the VA so I am sure they are not the highest quality though.
