For The Nick Stauskas Die Hard Fans

Recommended Posts

Best case - Klay Thompson 2.0

I'm warming up to Stauskas, although I think he will struggle initially.

I think Nick will be better off the dribble than Klay who can be clumsey and awkward on dribble drives.

Klay is a bit overrated IMO other than being a streaky deep shooter. I hate watching him play bc he just does a lot of wasted motion and makes mistakes he should not at this stage. He just plays dumb too often.

Hendo is going to start over any SG you get at #9, so getting a SG would indeed be getting a bench player who would play only 15-20 minutes a game. Hendo would have to be traded for anyone of those guys to start.

If McRoberts opts out there is a glaring need at the 4 to replace his talent. Point forward with dribble drive and 3 point range.

If he doesn't then the team is looking at bench depth/talent no matter what position they take.

Hendo is out the door either this season or next. He will be a 6th man here or be traded.

And lets be real Staus and PJ are better than Hendo right now. Especially for our team.

They both have major deficiencies in their game, they wouldn't start over Hendo till he's traded or his contract expires. Period.

The fug with taking into consideration fit

lol

Both those guys should and would start over Hendo given the makeup of our team if the coach was putting the best complimentary team on the court.

This.

PJ could probably win the job in camp or preseason, BUT

Stauskas would IMMEDIATELY be penciled in as the starter at the 2 spot.

No, the fact that Nik is a horrible on ball defender and a just as bad team defender. Then you have his lack of lateral quickness and short reach, which shows he has little room for improvement on his defense. At best he'll become a below average defender in the NBA.

You need to be an elite athletic prospect, have size and skill going for you or be a two way player to be a top ten pick for me. He doesn't fit the bill on any of those three.

So not only do I not think he would have a chance in hell of starting over Hendo, I wouldn't draft him at 9. Maybe if charlotte still had the Chicago pick at 16th, but not at 9. No way in hell. Only one player in this draft I'd start over Hendo right away and that's Wiggins.

Do you know how bad of a defender Harden is? Yet I dont think anyone would question taking him top 3 or 5 in a draft.

And when is 6'7 reach on a SG short reach? Also, he proved he has adequate quickness and vert at the combine ahead of other SGs.

You Hendo's cousin? lmao

In my opinion Staus is the most complete offensive SG to come into the league since Harden. Just look at all the bells and whistles he ticks.

Lights Out Shooter (Curry Lvl) - Check

Good Ballhandler - Check

Good Passer / Facilitator - Check

Crazy Efficient - Check

Great Size - Check

Solid Athleticism - Check (decent vert and 2nd overall lane agility of SG's at the combine)

New vid I havent seen posted here yet.

Nah, not Hendo's cousin, just playing devils advocate like always. Id rather go after Hayward, play him at the 2 and go after a stretch 4 or SF in the draft.

    • Exactly the type of thing he would have done here. The excuse people were stannin’ so hard claiming he would have looked just as bad. Just not true.
    • Yes and there aren't 32 starting QBs in the league either. Too many teams and too many games. The NFL has regressed over the years and game quality is lacking. The other leagues are supposed to be farm leagues but it doesn't matter. You just won't have 32 no matter what they do. The move to super athletes playing QB at all levels has lead to this. It used to be those guys played other positions but now they are QBs who can't really QB.  It has a trickle down effect too. OL can't block because they never had to. The fact that in today's game your QB must be able to run at least a little to survive is evidence of this as well. IMO they have ruined the game same as with the NBA. It's been simplified to the point of being boring.  Just look at the top 10 this season. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) Joe Burrow (Bengals) Josh Allen (Bills) Lamar Jackson (Ravens) Dak Prescott (Cowboys) Jalen Hurts (Eagles) Brock Purdy (49ers) Jordan Love (Packers) Justin Herbert (Chargers) Matthew Stafford (Rams) Once we get to number 5 the stats look like this: 167 262 1,845 63.7 7.0 10 8 65 18 84.5   47.5   10 TDs and 8 INTs??? At number 5??? There was a time not that long ago that he wouldn't even be a starter.
    • I'm not convinced that the NFL is any better or worse at developing QBs now than they were 20 years ago.  I mean I'm sure there are some developmental issues at play, just not sure it is any different than it has been. The biggest difference IMO is that NFL teams are waaaaaaaay more willing to invest a 1st round pick into a QB now than they were 15-20 years ago.  A guy like Colin Kaepernick would probably be a top 5 pick in 2025, whereas he went in the 2nd in 2011.  Would a guy like Trey Lance go top 3 in 2010?  Hell no.  Look at Russell Wilson - he didn't go until the 3rd round.  The standard for being a 1st round QB has dropped. So it may seem like we're seeing more high-profile busts at the position, but we're also seeing teams reach for QBs way more than they have in the past.  Someone with Anthony Richardson's college resume doesn't go in the top 3 20 years ago.
