Jason Peter, Rashard Anderson, Tshimanga Biakabutuka, Kerry Collins, Rae Carruth...

All names that it still makes me wince to remember :(

As a Spartan, I hate UM players with a passion. That said. Timmy was a beast. Until his knee blew. He had never had an injury before. Then bam.

Just shows to go ya. You just never know.

saw it in article and hadn't thought of before so thought was interesting. Also brings extra meaning to how Gettleman said "I'm sure Cam is not mad at me now," after taking KB in the 1st R

17 years of NFL drafts had gone by before we selected our last WR in the 1st Round, and he was the only WR we took in the first round in team history before now. Coming into the 2014 draft, these are the positions we had taken in the 1st Round...

2 - QB (Kerry Collins, Cam Newton)

1 - WR (Rae Carruth, 1997)

3 - RB (DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Tshimanga Biakabutuka)

3 - OT (Jordan Gross, Blake Brockermeyer, Jeff Otah)

2 - DE (Julius Peppers, Jason Peter)

1 - DT (Star Lotulelei)

4 - LB (Dan Morgan, Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Luke Kuechly)

3 - CB (Chris Gamble, Tyrone Poole, Rashard Anderson)

What!!! No kicker?

The RB thing is true now but at the time it wasnt a huge reach.

Deangelo was taken at the end of the round (Bush went 2 overall and Maroney at 21? to the pats).

Mcfadden went 4th,when we took Stewart at 16...yes Forte,Charles and Rice all went after him but at the time nobody considered it a reach over the other guys.

Biakabutuka went top 5 but only after Lawrence Phillips(anybody else remembering him doing a ray rice and dragging some girl down some stairs by her hair?)...Again back then taking RB's early wasn't considered a bad thing back then.

Those 4 LB'S have been great picks..nobody could have predicted the injuries the first 3 faced.

want to hear the funny part ?

he was drafted by the Lambs, who were owned by a women...............go figure.

I'm not saying they were reaches, nor commenting on the players as individuals. I also realize that when Biakabatuka was drafted, first round RBs were common. Merely commenting on a draft strategy that hasn't netted us a whole lot of sustained success.

the lack of sustained success results more from us whiffing on our 2nd and 3rd round picks, and failing to produce quality backups or special team players from the later rounds, imo

first round is great and all, but i see a lot of WR on that list that flamed out, Ginn being one of them.  Rod Garner had a shot here too and flamed out.
