Kelvin Benjamin first WR Panthers have taken in 1st R in 17 years

3 RBs and 4 LBs, the two positions that, more than any others, you can usually find quality starters outside the first round.

Don't read this as I don't want Kuechly or some crap.

The RB thing is true now but at the time it wasnt a huge reach.

Deangelo was taken at the end of the round (Bush went 2 overall and Maroney at 21? to the pats).

Mcfadden went 4th,when we took Stewart at 16...yes Forte,Charles and Rice all went after him but at the time nobody considered it a reach over the other guys.

Biakabutuka went top 5 but only after Lawrence Phillips(anybody else remembering him doing a ray rice and dragging some girl down some stairs by her hair?)...Again back then taking RB's early wasn't considered a bad thing back then.

Those 4 LB'S have been great picks..nobody could have predicted the injuries the first 3 faced.

we are like the 49ers in loading up on LBs with our 1st R picks:

49ers: Aldon Smith (2011), Patrick Willis (2007), Manny Lawson (2006), Julian Peterson (2000)

Panthers: Luke Kuechly (2012), Jon Beason (2007), Thomas Davis (2005), Dan Morgan (2001)

but 49ers haven't taken a 1st R running back since 1994. Frank Gore was taken #65 overall, 2005 draft

instead, the 9ers loaded up on WRs with their 1st R picks... A. J. Jenkins (2012), Michael Crabtree (2009), Rashaun Woods (2004)...also TE Vernon Davis (2006)

We've considered drafting WRs before. The Panthers reportedly took a hard look at AJ Green. At times we had damn good WRs and didn't need to draft any. There were also year where maybe we thought Jarret or Colbert would break out.

That's the thing about drafting someone high. You basically commit to them for three years. That means giving them snaps to see what they got. Clausen is the one guy we replaced after his rookie year.
