The #1 Problem with CHARLOTTE sports fans

Recommended Posts

There are a multitude of problems, but:

The typical Charlotte sports fan TAKES FOR GRANTED what we have.

6'5" 250 lb. QB? They act like they can just trash him and that he can't leave here, literally, in 365 days.

I had to come share that though because I just got in an argument with a co-worker and it just fuging pisses me off how ungrateful people are to have the superstar that we have.

So what if he does a fuging pose? It's entertainment. They're trying to sell tickets and create a brand..we may be a bunch of old farts (well I'm getting there) but the kids love it.

In closing, I challange all of us huddlers to stick it to any Panthers fan that says a foul word about our QB, not just arguing his talent, but reminding them of the STAR that we have and the PLATFORM that it gives the city.

Because this talent:

Doesn't come around every day. I think the biggest issue is most Charlotte area sports fans assume that it does.

you know when you say sports fan it covers all sports so a  broader problem probably exists

Not true at all

I grew up in Charlotte and it's the young generation of fans that are going to push the fanbase to the next level.

Before Charlotte had the Panthers, I was a Buffalo fan because of where I was born and family ties. And now everyone in my family is a diehard Panther fan, even my Mom who is from Niagara Falls. Now, I'm not saying our fanbase is like the Bills' in Buffalo, because I've always believed they have the best fans in the game. But the problem is the traditional / conservative older generation of fans, not the young fans. It's their kids that are going nuts about this team and grew up with only the Panthers and not the Redskins or Falcons or Bills or whoever.

I've never seen a crowd at a Panther regular season game like the Saints game this past season. I've been to at least 40 home games, and it was so obvious that even my Mom pointed out how the majority of the fans in the upper deck were young fans and we were LOUD and it was pouring rain. Most electric atmosphere I've been in at a Panthers game. I just think, yes the Panthers game atmosphere has been stale for a lot of those years, but as the young generation of fans, like me, grow up and can afford to go to games, the atmosphere at game will only continue to get rowdier and rowdier.

This is true.

I was born and raised in Charlotte. Went to Hornets games as a kid at the hive, birthday parties ice skating at Eastland Mall, before Charlotte had 2 area codes, etc.

10 years ago, I could look around a room and tell you that almost everyone was from Charlotte.

Now, I am the odd one out being the Charlotte native

BUT, I do know a lot of people who have moved down here and converted to Panthers fans. Maybe they stay with their old team, but they are buying our tickets and our merchandise.

Not to mention, our franchise really isn't that old in the eyes of the NFL. We are finally reaching a generation where people who grew up as Panthers fans ('95 on) are having children who will be Panthers fans out of the womb.

For example-Zod's kids, Kurb's kids, ncbiscuits kids, BMorgan's son.....they've always known the Panthers. That's the way it should be!

You better believe my kids will all be born in Panthers gear. 10 years from now we will have a solid die hard fanbase who have only known our team their whole lives.

Maybe I need to take another look at how I am looking at Charlotte.  Maybe it is just the circles I run in.  Thanks for sharing that; insightful.

I have been saying this for years. I grew up in Michigan, as a Lions, Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings fan. I moved to SC almost 30 year ago. With no sports teams around here, I kept my allegiances to my teams.

But when the Panthers came along it was a chance to begin a new team from the ground up. Something I had never been a part of before. Now, I am a Panther fan first, and a Lions fan second. I can tell you more about the Panthers than I can about the Lions.

You are right in the fact that when the kids that grew up only knowing the Panthers start bringing their kids to games, the stadium will almost be full of Panther fans. It is impossible to fill a stadium until you have that 3rd generation helping.

Charlotte is still a young sports town. And their are going to be transplants rooting for their old teams no matter how long the Panthers are here. But in a few years that difference at the game will start to be less noticeable.

Take heart Charlotte. Your time is coming.

Yep.

Bill Simmons does an NBA trade value column every year about how valuable certain players are to their franchises. Now, think about this: for the NFL ignoring salary cap considerations (like how much it would cost the Cowboys to trade Romo), there any player/pick for another team's GM wouldn't trade for Newton straight up?

Probably Luck. Obviously I like Cam way more, and he has a higher ceiling. But still, it would be close.

Maybe Rodgers. He's no doubt better now and still has several years of high quality play in him. But still, he's 30.

That's really about it. You can say Manning or a few other guys are playing at a higher level now, but Newton is arguably THE most valuable asset in the NFL. He probably has the most potential of any QB in the NFL in the past 15 years with the exception of Vick and maybe Daunte Culpepper.

Yet, there are still people who don't appreciate him. I defended the poo out of him even after the Cardinals game. People who actually know football know he was about the only thing right in our offense last year though.

Ginn was getting held like no other at 1:54.  Nice video by the way.

I've been screaming this ever since CJN was drafted. The team finally got it right and Panthers fan (some) just don't appreciate the talent. Cam has the size, talent, charisma to help propel the Panthers to higher levels than they have ever been. The true Panther fan need to constantly push for others to follow suite.
