The #1 Problem with CHARLOTTE sports fans

Recommended Posts

If Cam looked like Manziel he'd have swag, be the greatest thing since slice bread, and sell a million jerseys on draft day. Only in football they can play that kind of game. At the end of the day who give a crap who is ranked where. That poo matters more in basketball but they don't emphasize it since there's no hidden message to convey. So many fugging subliminal messages in football it's not even funny. If you're not a football fan you'd think Peyton is the MJ of that sport. You'd think he leads the nfl in pass, catch, rush, int. etc. Poor guy can barely move laterally to save his life. The media's in the market of selling perception and I ain't buying.

Really?

Yes.

Although, technically he can actually be locked up by Carolina without an extension or new deal until the summer of 2019.

2014- 4th year on rookie deal

2015- 5th year option on rookie deal

2016- franchise tag

2017- franchise tag

2018- franchise tag

2019- unrestricted free agent

You can actually tag a QB 3 years in a row, but that's the limit. Only 2 years for any other position player. After that they are an unrestricted free agent.

However, it's practically impossible to tag a QB a 3rd year. He'd be taking up nearly half of the salary cap.

First year QB tag is the average pay off top QBs, which is very expensive. If you tag them a 2nd time it's the same formula plus several million on top of it. If you tag them a 3rd time it's a 44% increase of whatever the 2nd tag equaled. That would be over $50mil for one year.

Can't QBs be tagged twice by the same team?

Edit: I think all players can be tagged twice, actually.

You are right. I did not know.

In fact I think based on this we could tag a QB three times.

6.  No non-quarterback will be tagged more than twice.

Former Seahawks tackle Walter Jones once spent three straight years under the franchise tag, pocketing a total of $20 million and then signing a long-term deal that paid him $20 million more guaranteed, back when $20 million was a very big deal for NFL purposes.

Jones rolled the dice on bearing the injury risk for the three franchise years, and he won.  Most players prefer the certainty of a long-term deal.

That’s why the 2006 CBA changed the formula to pay a non-quarterback the quarterback franchise tender if he’s tagged a third time.

Quarterbacks are protected, too.  In the third year of the franchise tag, they get at least a 44-percent raise over their cap number in the prior year.

Yeah that's the way I read it too. However, I would imagine 44% over the second year cap figure would be pretty significant.

Edit: I think I remember talking about franchising Peppers for a 2nd time as an option back then. That's what made me think we could franchise twice. If it honestly came to that then I would assume that means Cam doesn't want to sign a long term deal here. Like Peppers...

What we need are for less people bitchin about fans. Seriously, dont you have a woman to give attention to, kids to raise, or a job to do?

....really man? Was that necessary? I think I can take 10 minutes out of my lunch break to post a thread about a quick thought I had after having a conversation with 2 people about how they don't appreciate the QB.

I don't think that affects my ability to pleasure my wife (at work), raise my daughter (in day care), or do my job (on break).

Jesus you guys act like I'm telling the Huddle they don't appreciate Cam. All I was saying was that people that DON'T appreciate him are failing to realize that he isn't just a young QB, he's a star that provides something Charlotte hasn't had before.

And I wanted to put a sick highlight video up for everyone to fap to.

But hey, if that's a felony, slap the cuffs on me.

People have been worried Cam is gonna bolt from Carolina since he was 22 years old. Even if he wanted out, which he doesn't, he'd be over 30 before he even has the chance.

Chicken littles. Lol

I love how the NFL is set up. You have mature as a player before you can enter the draft. Teams have the power to lock up great players to keep them from bolting, especially all important QBs. Yet at the same time the players are protected and will be paid extremely well.

Baseball has a great system, too. It's just completely different.

Both are unlike the NBA where small markets are screwed by the lottery and free agency. And even if a struggling team gets lucky in the lottery and drafts a great player they just bolt to a major market after 4-5 years.

Yeah, I found it from the same link you posted. Apparently they just recently set it up that way. Used to be position players could be tagged indefinitely and QBs twice. Now position players can be tagged only twice and QBs only three times.

Yeah that's the way I read it too. However, I would imagine 44% over the second year cap figure would be pretty significant.

Right now it'd have to be close to $50mil, if not more. If imagine by 2018 it'd be closer to $60-70mil with inflation.

If we have to franchise tag him three times then we have possibly the worst FO ever, and that's not the case.

He isn't going anywhere regardless.

I doubt that 3rd tag will ever be used on any QB. It seems nearly impossible. Was just saying it's technically possible.

Cam will sign an extension next summer. He loves it here and anyone who pays attention can see it. He's really embraced Charlotte and the Carolinas.

I'm getting so tired of the "Panthers fans don't deserve Cam" threads. Whenever you have a large and diverce fan base there are going to be people that love certain players and hate others. I'm sure all 90 guys on the Panthers roster have a critic somewhere out there.

I've seen people hate John Kasay. I've seen people hate Steve Smith. I'm sure there was some guy out there in 1996 that couldn't stand Chad Cota. All of that is multiplied for a Quarterback.
