edit and in looking for this gif, i found many others by stewart and others, and one common theme i foudn was its always saints players getting abused...the lynch runs, stewart gifs, reggie bush getting obliterated, brees giraffe neck, the steve smith-harper hit/fight etc

i don't know why, but that reminded me of the time that J-Stew flipped that player who was blitzing.  I can't find that clip for the life of me.

That's the big Panthers touchdown against the Saints that turned into a brawl after Harper hit Smith.

Stewie has fought through injuries his entire career and up until a Taint player went low on him last year he still had missed less games than Willy.

I'm looking forward to him tearing it up with an interior line that features a healthy Silatolu, Kalil and the brand new mauler in Turner.

I know, right?

I get that Stew has been hurt and all that.  I know that this is a bottom-line type of business where you just can't invest millions of dollars on a player that's sitting on the sidelines for any appreciable amount of time without making hard choices---no matter the reason for injuries. But what I'll never understand is why fans have to be so dismissive and/or patronizing of a hard working guy who played his role admirably pre-injury problems.

Here's to J-Stew returning to form.

I hope you're right.

Gaffney reminds me of the kind of players that the Patriots tend to go after.  Smart, tough, maybe not super special but able to contribute.

The Pats had a 6th rounder in 2000 who turned out to be pretty good. I hope Gaffney ends up being half as good a bargain. Personally I liked the pick before Gman gave him the thumbs up.

Gaffney reminds me of Jacob Hester, LSU's feature back (and team captain) that led them to their National Championship in 2007. Both are smart, tough, healthy as a horse, great at picking up blitzes, great at finding the hole, have good hands/are good at catching out of the backfield, not super special but able to contribute.

compare their measureables:

Hester 5-11/226, 1.50 ten yard dash, 09'08" broad jump, 23 bench reps

Gaffney 6-0/220, 1.51 ten yard dash, 09'08" broad jump, 15 bench reps

Hester was drafted 3rd R, Pick 6, #69 overall in 2008, ahead of Mike Tolbert (UDFA) and the Vikings' 2012 All-Pro/2012 Pro Bowl FB Jerome Felton (5th Round)

Hester was also drafted ahead of Jamaal Charles (#73 overall), Peyton Hillis (7th R), BenJarvus Green-Ellis (UDFA), etc

Hester made the 53-man roster for 5 straight years in the NFL (4 yrs with Chargers, then division rivals Broncos signed him for a year). Since he turned 28, Hester hasn't found a team that wanted him and was out of the league last year. Now 29, he tried out at the Saints rookie camp last weekend, but they didn't sign him...

"He's one of those veteran players that's here on a three-day workout," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "He's smart. He's very instinctive. You can see that. He makes good decisions."

"Everywhere he's been, he's been a niche player," Payton said. "He's certainly a niche-type player."

Saints RB coach said:

"You see (Hester's) intelligence and you see his ability ... We'll continue to measure that, to monitor his growth. But we're pleased with his work right now."

Add 25 pounds of muscle to him and he becomes the next Alstott. A bruiser that can double as a halfback/fullback. Imagine Tolbert catching screen passes while Gaffney is picking up the blitz! Linebackers/secondary would get their bell rung so hard dealing with an up to speed Tolbert in open field or Gaffney/Tolbert up the middle
