What's going on?

Thank you for making my point.

As engineers, you have a vested interest in keeping your job and advancing/promoting the business, thereby ensuring your future employment along with its perks and raises. Basic stuff.

As politicians, Raleigh has a vested interest in lining their pockets and, maybe, helping the state become profitable. All the while furthering their own outside business interests.

So, while I'm sure each of you are true professionals and very knowledgeable in your chosen fields, on the other hand, I'm not likely to believe the wolf when he tells me the best way to keep him out of the hen house. So I'm sure you won't mind that I take with a grain of salt the word of someone who justifiably defends the people who pay him.

Actually, in my field, increased regulation means more paying work for me.  A lot more.

Thanks to the carolina heelsplitter that I cited, we have more permitting headaches.  But we also have to design stormwater treatment systems and erosion mitigating measures that private interests would never build on their own.

What I see is citizens not holding their elected officials to task. Your issue is with them not the industry. Colorado is an excellent example of strict regulations still allowing they industry to flourish. But how awful for NC to have to elect a democrat, perhaps even a libertarian, or even an atheist.

It's the craziest thing in the world to me that people are completely healthy until we start drilling for oil. We've only been fracking for 80 years. One of our lawyers had a drilling rig set up on a site for inspection. Everything was set up to drill but we had to wait for the state. Three days into the inspection we started getting calls from lawyers ready to sue because our "fracking"made this family sick.

But the issue at hand I've stopped explaining our process to people because no one cares. They all have their own opinion and it won't change.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the entire process with you at length. Specifically, the chemicals used, their relative toxicity and the combinations of those chemicals; the evidence suggesting recent seismic activity in Texas with epicenters almost exactly where fracking operations are ongoing, etc.

And I do hold the elected officials accountable, regardless of party affiliation. Business affiliations are of more consequence to me than someone's party.

But if it's not such a big deal, then why is the industry lobbying the government to make disclosure the industry's decision? If there's nothing to hide and it's nothing to worry about, then why make it a legislated secret?

Millions of dollars in research. No one is clamoring for the secret ingredients in food are they? This may sound hard to believe but we try not to dump chemicals into the ground. The main reason for that is they're expensive. Our main chemical used is to treat microbes in the oil that produce H2S as a waste. Some acid is used to clean up but its quickly pushed back up with the water.

But my area of expertise is oil not natural gas like they would be drilling for in NC.
