Do you think Rodney Hood is not athletic enough to play the 3?

Combine numbers:

Reach (more important than wingspan):  McD   8'7  Hood  8'7

Body Fat:  McD:  7.1   Hood:  7.5

Max Vertical:  McD:  36.5  Hood:  36

Max Vertical reach:  McD  11' 7.5"   Hood  11' 7"

Agility drill   McD:  11.10    Hood:  11.21

Sprint:   McD:  3.29    Hood:   3.38

So... considering that McD has the same reach, less fat, jumps higher, is more agile, and runs faster than Rodney Hood would you say that Rodney Hood also lacks athleticism?

Or you don't care what the measurable are because he didn't dunk enough in college to meet you litmus for athleticism?

I don't care what the combine numbers say. If you can't look on film and see that Rodney Hood is a way more athletic player then Mcdermontt. Then i don't know what to tell you.

Plain and simple when I see Mcdermontt all i see is a tweener stretch 4 with little athleticism no ball handling  or shot creation ability and a bad defender. He will stay in the league because he can shoot but will be a specialist 1 trick pony off the bench player. He isn't worth a lottery or a top 10 pick. The team that picks him that high (hopefully not us) will be making a mistake.

Since you are so sure about him and I'm sure about my opinion. How about we put a little wager on it?

Film is deceiving at times. Sometimes you have a guy that is an elite shooter, so you don't have a bunch of highlights of him dunking on people, but that doesn't mean he lacks athleticism.

I am not that sure about him actually, I just think comparing him to Morrison and calling him not athletic based on nothing tangible that I can see, except your insistence that he is not despite the evidence to the contrary, is not a fair assessment of the guy. All I have said about him.is if he can play the 4 I really like him. If he has to play the 3, I don't like him.nearly as much. I will let the GMs figure out whether he can play the 4 or not.

I may be agreeable to a wager after the draft. Every player will produce differently in different systems and situations. I would like to see where he ends up before making a bet on rookie production or things of that nature.

I'm sorry the highest % shot is a dunk. So if a player can dunk instead of laying it up or floating it up. He should dunk.

The combine numbers can be just as deceiving.

1. You know all the stuff the coaches are going to have you do. So you can practice running  around combs and vert jumps before you get there.

2. No defenders.

Again I look at what you do during the game when people are trying to stop you. Not what you do against air.

And in the game he showed a great shooting ability and inside scoring against college competition.

But he struggled against longer defenders and most of his wide open shots came against college big man who could cover a spot up shooter. Which won't be the case in the Nba. He also showed slow footwork no ability to guard a perimeter player or a NBA worthy talented  big man.

We get it, you don't like the guy do to flawed logic. You said something like (Name the other 6'7 PFs in the NBA and you'll get Boris Diaw, which is the best McDermott can become'). That's the dumbest logic I've ever heard. Also "Morrison and McDermott averaged similar PPG in college therefore Doug McDermott is Adam Morrison".

McDermott participated in the Team USA mini-camp last summer and has already played some against some of the pros. Here is what they had to say:

“He's a confident player. He's a confident shooter, a confident scorer,” New Orleans Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson said. “I think a college guy can come in here and be intimidated, but he wasn't. He accepted the challenge.”

“He can shoot the sh*t out of the basketball,” Detroit Pistons big man Andre Drummond said. “It's incredible. I was surprised he didn't come out for the draft this year, but he's going to make a lot of money the way he shoots.”

“He's going to be a great shooter in this league," Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson added.

“He did fine through the physicality,” Detroit Pistons power forward Greg Monroe said. “He got to the rim a little bit. He definitely looked good.”

A few names I've heard as Day 1 standouts from Team USA camp: Damian Lillard, Gordon Hayward, DeAndre Jordan AND collegian Doug McDermott

Anybody but Gordon, he's a terrible fit for the offense.  We dont need to add someone who might have an offensive game in 5 years

I really like Saric, he would be a great fit in the offense playing the same role McRoberts does, he can play some point forward and knock down open threes, with the added ability to create his own shot.  Hes got a ton of experience playing professionally for a guy so young too.  I dont mind the potential that he stays in Europe for another year, he will still be ready to play whenever he gets here and nobody we pick at #9 is going to make us a contender next year anyways (plus we can just bring back McBob for another season).

Any of the SGs would be fine by me (Stauskas, Young, Hairston, Harris, Lavine in that order), but I dont see a whole lot of difference between them so I'd rather trade back (or up from 24) to draft one.

Doug Mcbuckets is intriguing (and oddly enough might have a higher upside than a lot of guys at that point), but his size is worrisome.  I'm not even talking about his height, but weighing in at 218 (30 lbs less than Randle) is a concern.  He has to put on more muscle and that could slow him down even more.  But if he can defend 4s in the NBA he could be an explosive offensive weapon
