Build Your 2014 Charlotte Hornets

Recommended Posts

I thought this would be a fun idea so I decided to roll with it. In this thread I want to see how everyone would build the 2014 Charlotte Hornets.

NBA Free Agents: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9947573/nba-free-agents-2014-2015

Draft Express Mock: http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2014/

Trade Machine: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

Here are the rules...
1. You build through the draft (picks 9,24, 45), free agency, and trades.
2. Regarding the draft, refer to the DraftExpress mock, you are not allowed to pick a player that is slotted anymore than three spots ahead of our pick (i.e. you aren't getting Wiggins, Parker, or Embiid at #9).
2. You are allowed one trade and the trade has to match-up salary wise and value wise, picks can be included (verify with the nba trade machine for salary)
3. Regarding free agency, we're going to assume that McRoberts opts out leaving you with $20M dollars to spin. Give out reasonable contracts to realistic targets (i.e. No LBJ)
4. You are allowed to cut one player on the current roster if they have a team option (Jeff Taylor) or their contract is $2 million dollars or below (Brendan Haywood).
5. The only roster stipulation is that you must have between 13-15 players and three of those players have to be point guards.

Note: When posting your roster, put the salary beside the players you signed.

The current roster is...

PG: Walker
SG: Henderson, Neal, Taylor
SF: Kidd-Gilchrist
PF: Zeller
C: Jefferson, Biyombo, Haywood

Good Luck!!!

A week ago, I wanted no part of Lance Stephenson. But he's currently going off and it's Lance so I may be back on board. I wouldn't mind Spencer Hawes depending on the price/scenario. Two restricted guys I'd go after possibly, 1. Parsons 2. Hayward

Sign one of the above (in this scenario Lance...who I also think there's little chance he comes here, but whatever)

PG - Kemba

SG - Lance

SF - MKG

PF - McBob/Zeller

C - Jefferson

Draft at 9

McDerm - instant offense potential, but a meh pick to many

Lavine - crazy potential...but raw

Harris - safest perhaps, solid player, fills a need

Gordon - add a big name/stat stuffer...but limited offense

Hood - we seemingly like him, but this is too high IMO

Draft at 24

Hairston - I don't know if he lasts this long, but at 24 you take him and hope for the best. Would also be willing to trade back from 9 to the teens and grab him there.

Warren - Not going to be a star, but he's got an old man's game and can score. Will be a solid role guy and maybe anchor the 2nd team, which is needed terribly.

CHARLOTTE HORNETS 2014-2015

Cut: Brendan Haywood

FA: Gordon Hayward, SF [4yr/50mil]

Greg Stiemsma, C

2014 NBA Draft

(no.9) Julius Randle, PF, Kentucky

I think that guys like Vonleh, Gordon, Ennis, and Harris could push Randle down to our pick at no9. I really, really want Gary Harris at this pick, but Randle is too great of a value to pass up. If any of the top guys may take a fall, it would be Randle (tweener).

(no.24) Elfrid Payton, PG, Louisiana-Lafayette

(no.45) C.J. Fair, SF, Syracuse or Deandre Daniels, SF

Depth Chart

PG: Kemba Walker / Elfrid Payton

SG: Gordon Hayward / Gerald Henderson / Gary Neal

SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist / Jeff Taylor / C.J. Fair

PF: Julius Randle / Cody Zeller

C : Al Jefferson / Greg Stiemsma / Bismack Biyombo

Cut-haywood

PG: Walker, kirk hinrich(FA 4.5 mill), jordan Clarkson(draft)

SG: Henderson, Neal, Taylor, nik staus(draft)

SF: Kidd-Gilchrist, james jones(FA 1 mill)

PF: cody zeller, payne(draft)

C: Jefferson, Biyombo, haseem thabet (FA 3mill)

Hey so first just wanted to say i have been here for a while and post here and there but for most part just kinda stay in background and read post. Also when it comes to building team for nba i feel that you have to do it through free agency then draft, im not biggest fan of trading unless its picks or quality backup.

Now that thats out of the way can explain choices.

Kirk-so i chose him because feel we already have have a pg who can attack think we need a pg who can run the floor a different way. He can also score so just in case other pickups dont work he will help soften the blow of that.

James jones-feels he is underated player. Good shooter in limited touches and provides vet experience and one that has been on winning teams

9Th nik stuaskas sg feel from reading reports will be good stand up 3shooter and safe pick. Will be able to come in and contribute but not expected to be savior.

24Th. Adrian payne pf. Again guy who has a nice shot and can shoot anywhere on court not best post player.

45- jordan Clarkson pg. Feel he can be filler.

Feel like an offseason like this really improves team and puts us up to the 4 spot. All while not destroying us in contract money. This allows us to have big splashes in next years free agency as alot of our contracts for players we may not want ends after this season. Like henderson or bismack and few others. This also sets us up to have good role players who can either gain experience and build chemistry so that we will have good depth so that in future just need a starting sg, resign kemba, and depening on how cody plays a pf.

Welcome and feel free to post whenever. We're all mean to each other but we all share a common love which is the Hornets... except for Simon Says, he's an ass.

    • Fair enough. I never once said not supporting Tepper makes you a bad fan by the way. I can't stand the guy myself. You on the other hand don't like anything about the team. You can't stand the owner or the coach because his religion doesn't fall in line with how you feel it should so I'm curious why you are even a fan at this point? Hell, you like nothing about the team, why even be a fan these days?  We can go backs and forth about how many games we have been to and measure dicks if you want or but it doesn't matter. I've been to my fair share over the years. Some as a fan and some work related but I bet you have been to more due to my weekends being filled with some work I do at the collegiate level so I probably only average maybe 2-3 games per year tops. You have me beat there im sure. You are probably very correct on us not being the same in anything at all I am quite sure of that. If I'm a "mark" (as you put it) for not liking Tepper and not caring about Canales religion or his political beliefs or letting it have weight on whether or not I like the team then call me a "mark" but you're still a whiny bitch either way.  When you hate everything about leadership from their personalities to their religious beliefs all the way to who they vote for at that point why even be a fan? I can side with you judging by your beliefs that you have made apparent, if you owned and coached the team, I sure as hell would find a new one to support but as you said we are different. Enjoy Norway, it is a beautiful country. Visited last year myself and absolutely loved it.
    • The playing well part, depends on what happens going forward. It could have been a tease that will dig our hole deeper.  In the small picture of one game, probably his best game. Green Bay wasn't as great as people think it was. More like one good quarter. Followed by two games of exactly nothing.
    • Oh, it was handled horrifically.  Ego got in the way of a plan.  I'm just saying, that he actually probably stumbled into the better outcome/plan.
