Has anyone else been having a terrible year?

2014 has just been one awful thing after another for me.  I don't think a single good thing has happened to me this year.  Everything has been negative.  Anyone else just getting poo on this year or is it just me?

Pretty good year so far.

2008/2009  not so much

Nope, pretty good so far.

Got married, spent 10 days in Jamaica with my family and friends celebrating, off to the best sales numbers of my career, getting a raise in 3rd quarter (fingers crossed), and just now decided to sell my home and try to get something on the water....probably not going to happen.

Glad to hear some of you are having some good luck this year.  I'm to the point where if something good happened to me, even a small thing, I'd explode with joy.

Within the first two weeks of 2014, the band I'd spent the past 2 years playing with and devoting a lot of my time with kicked me a several other members out/replaced us.  Then my girlfriend of three years broke up with me, a week before we were supposed to move in together.  The day after the breakup, my dad calls me and says he has cancer (I've been repressing that one hard).  The company I work for is getting sued by the state of Texas so I could soon be losing my job.  Texas cancelled our contract so no matter what the result of the lawsuit I should probably get ready to be on unemployment.  Chalk up the little things like my rent going up for no reason, my car getting run into in the grocery store parking lot with no note (a nice $500 repair bill out of pocket), and countless other small things going wrong...

I just want to hear about the good things happening in other people's lives for a change, so brag away.

Damn man, that is definitely a crappy year. Hang in there...it is bound to get better.

Some tough breaks for sure.

Dig deep, and try to figure out what makes you happy.  And go from there.  I talk to so many people everyday that can't even answer that question.  What makes you happy?

In 2009 I had 7 family members get their clocks punched.

And not a bunch of distant once a year relatives but people I saw 2,3,5 times a month.  People who I told the that I loved them on a regular basis.

After 2009 no year is a bad year...

Everyone has had/is having that shitty year where everything seems to go wrong and there doesn't seem to be any way things can turn around.

I had mine about 10 years ago, and I can tell you that you will make it through it. Right now all those things that have happened seem like shitty luck, but in a few years, you'll see them as necessary changes. The girlfriend thing hurts, but better you find out now than if you'd stayed in it, gotten married and then had to split up joint assets/kids. The band thing sucks as well, but you never know what opportunities are out there that you can pursue now that you've cut ties with them. You're only 5.5 months into 2014, so you can't really write it off as your shittiest year, it could still turn around and net positively for you.

Ten years ago, I was in a bad marriage, just bought a house, both of us lost our jobs within 2-3 months of signing the mortgage, and my mom tells me she has cancer. I didn't think things would ever get better.

Flash forward a decade, I got a better job, my mom has been in remission for over 7 years, I got divorced and remarried and I'm extremely happy with my current life.

Hang in there, seriously.

Thanks for the story.  I really really hope things get better, and I think they will.  But I've gotten to the point where I'm assuming the worst.  It's gotten really bad.

I just need something good to happen because nothing has.  Absolutely nothing good has happened to me this year.

Edit.  typos

    • And really, it should be 4 reasons with the last one being that there were ZERO other offensive weapons on that team in 2024, opposing defenses only had to worry about one player all year long and they constantly double and triple teamed him right off the snap all season.  In 2023, we still had Jacob Cowing who had 90 catches that year and was drafted by the 49ers last year, so teams couldn't just send everyone after T-Mac on every passing down.
    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
