For you people that are ok with Bell starting

I am trying to understand what the actual point of continuing to tear down our Offensive Tackles bring some of your huddlers. I think it is safe to say that everyone is worried about what will happen next year, and we have right to be. We lost the best Offensive Lineman that has ever garnered a Jersey for the Carolina Panthers, so it is definitely tough to replace that. It is ok to be alarmed. But it is also ok to be cautiously optimistic. I am sure that a lot of hours has been put into trying to figure out a way to handle the OT situation we have and I have no doubt that these coaches and scouting department, along with DG has and will continue to leave no stone unturned when it boils down to protecting their QB that is coming off of ankle surgery. There were some guys in the draft that the Panthers felt would have added benefit to the OT department, but none of those guys were there. I would have been more pissed to have reached for a guy, expecting to come in and start day one, then return to the huddle pissed when he becomes a bust. I am a football player and I understand how out of place and crazy it is to play out of position. I was a 5'10" 280 LB Defensive Tackle that recorded 92 Tackles, 4.5 Sacks, 10.5 TFL, 3 FF, 3 FR, 1 returned for a TD with a blocked FG my senior year in college at Nose Tackle. They moved me to Defensive End and I ABSOLUTELY forgot how to play football....j/k but I definitely wasn't good at it. I say, given all of the people that are available to Tackle, if the coaches believed in someone better than the guys we have now, they will surely pick them up, because they understand just as much as we do, that their jobs and Cam's health is on the line.

Unless we got one of the top OTs in the draft we do not need an OT. They drafted an OG. That addressed it. How so? Trai Turner allows the Panthers to put Gary Williams back at RT and they can bump Kugbila out to RT as well.

Nate Chandler is the Panthers future LT. Chandler was the project the Panthers were fast tracking to replace Jordan Gross at LT. They were planning on putting him at LT come 2015, but he is pushed into play now with Gross retiring.

Nate Chandler and Byron Bell competing for LT. Chandler wins.

Byron Bell, Gary Williams, and Edmund Kugbila competing for RT. Kugbila wins.

If everyone is healthy, you will see LT-Chandler, LG-Silatolu, C-Kalil, RG-Turner, RT-Kugbila

This OL combo gives the Panthers an extremely strong run blocking OL across the board and two OTs who will hold up well against speed rushers.

This gives the Panthers depth with Byron Bell, Gary Williams, and Chris Scott. These 8 will be your opening day OL roster. I could see David Foucault or Oscar Johnson impressing in preseason and the Panthers releasing Chris Scott.

This sounds as logical as any theory I have heard.  Almost as if it came from the man himself.   ARE YOU DG?

There was a reason they moved Chandler from defense to offense in 2012.  He has been on the roster and PS as an OT for the last 2 years.  He has had those 2 years to develop and I see no reason why he could not beat out Bell for the LT spot.   However, if Bell were to retain the #1 spot it would be because he earned it.   It doesn't seem logical that Rivera would give some the reins just because he liked him.

While we didn't address OT during the draft our front office seems happy with our situation.   So like most of us.  I will keep the faith and give Bell and his competition to battle it out and show us they belong.

I work at a steel plant and I am better and more comfortable working on the left side of the pressbrake. When i switch to the right its like a different world. Same machine, Same material. Just a different side. I understand it isnt the same as an NFL lineman, but its the same concept. There is a difference between the sides. Sort of a feel.

Like some have said.

No one is saying they are OK with it.

We just realize a couple of things that some of you don't.....that we have ZERO say about it and there is absolutely nothing we can do to change it no matter how many fuging threads are started.  So....no use OBSESSING over it.

yep. as far as im concerned, if Bell wins the starting job before Week 1, then no matter how mediocre he is, he is the Panthers' starting LT. i love this team and i will support Bell all season, even if he sucks all season. but come the end of Week 17, if Bell has sucked again all season, i will be the first one calling for his release. until then, i am a Byron Bell fan by virtue of being a Carolina Panther fan.

When I play split screen with the wife I have to be on the same side as my screen.

Also being the even in the bottom 5 RT starting in the NFL is still a pretty good player.  If Bell was as bad as many make him out to be he would not be starting for the last 2 years.  He's not a great player right now but he gets the job done most of the time.  He's good enough for us to win, even the Superbowl because it's been won before without having elite tackles.

I am not talking about the ppl you describe. I am talking about the ppl saying Bell is not bad and that he will do better on the left side blah blah. Bell is bad and we don't have a clue how he will do on the left side. Air on the side of caution and assume he will be bad on either side until proven otherwise.

Dont know about you but I am hoping / aiming for a superbowl. 10 wins and making the playoffs is fine I guess if that is all your hoping for or expect. Having a bad OL will make winning a superbowl difficult imo.

people saying he  will do better? who, exactly, is saying that. i see even the most optimistic people only saying he can be, not will be. the only one dealing in absolutes around here is you and, you might need to take a deep breath and make sure you're seated for this, you might not know as much as you think you know.

crazy, i know, but it's true. your issue has been with people not being as closed minded as you are about bell. ok...now you're saying know one knows, but that definitely goes back to you as well.

if you don't know about something, you test. he hasn't been tested at LT here. he's here, he's under contract, and we don't have a whole lot of options. we know how he is at RT. there is a lot of validity to ths idea that he might be better suited and more natural as an LT. no one is suggesting that he will be good there, just that he might be better there. no one is saying or suggesting that he is the answer there or will be good...just that he might be serviceable. a stop gap. and no one is suggesting that we act as if we don't have to worry about LT because we have bell and that we are settled. what i do see plenty of is people who say at the very least he should be competing with chandler. i don't see anyone saying that we shouldn't pursue other options or that we don't need to. no one is content with bell. it's just that most people understand that there is a lot of time left to get that figured out and that we have a good personnel guy to decide what is the best option. if that option just happens to be bell because either he's really not that bad or the other affordable options sucked more, we'll still be ok.

will that ok be good enough for a superbowl run? maybe, maybe not. 30 teams won't get to make that happen. a chance to play in the superbowl would be great, but considering the mediocrity most of us fans have had to endure for so long, back to back winning seasons will be a huge milestone and i will consider that accomplishment to be the sign of a successful season. and no, that doesn't mean i'm content not being the best. what it does mean is that i'm content with getting better. i'm content with the direction. i'm content in knowing that this team is building a foundation that is solid and that could make us perennial contenders. and i would be shocked if that doesn't speak to the vast majority of fans who have been fans for a long time.

I am pretty (99%) sure I saw numerous posters saying he would do better at LT due to him being x handed and due to the fact he can not do any worse. Maybe If I get the urge or time I will go back in search for those posts.

You are confusing close mindedness with being realistic and concerned. Two different things.

Ever notice that 99.99999999999% of the time when somebody claims to be a realist that they're really just a sensationalist?

99.8% of that time people just make up a random percentage, like that one time, in this thread OP thinks Panther fans are happy Bell might be the LT.  in actuality, the dude is arguing with no one but himself.
