PFF Carolina Panthers Depth Chart

Recommended Posts

DPOY is a popularity contest, Kuechly lacks in coverage, and Kalil is definitely not the best Center in the league right now.

Sorry.

I'll leave my electric blue colored kool-aid at the door.

The PFF rankings would make more sense to me if a lot of other players were judged accordingly.

Kuechly lacks in coverage..not even that much and is murdered for it on PFF.

PFF admits that Graham lacks in blocking and physical play..........but they have him as the 13th best player in the NFL ,  in 2013?    Graham is absolutely horrible when it comes to blocking,  that is clear to anyone that has watched him play..  Elite receiving ability,  sub-par blocking.

Just seems like their grading system is biased,  based on personal opinion.     Otherwise, I don't see how they completely sweep the faults of some players under the rug,  while trying to magnify the faults in others.

What do you consider elite?

According to that mock contract negotiation that NFP is doing, a player that is top five in their position get's paid like they are elite.

If that's the case, Kuechly, Kalil, and Tolbert are elite because they are all top five in their respective positions.

Didn't say they weren't elite, just not the best.

I think Tolbert is probably the best FB in the league though.

Kalil and Kuechly are both top 5.

Ranked 28th in defense before Kuechly started in the middle. Get the fug outta here.

You're acting like I said Kuechly is a shitty linebacker. I never did.

He's top 5, but not DPOY good. I think Lavonte David had a better year last year.

You're spending too much time on reddit.  That post DPOY poo storm anti-Kuechly circle jerk is getting to you.

Could some of the other candidates have won it over Luke?  Sure, and I wouldn't have even been mad.  But the same thing is true with Keek... he was just as deserving of the award also.  If you haven't been able to notice the dramatic improvement in our defense since Luke took over then I don't know what to tell you.  It's about more than PFF stats.

PFF is an extremely good source for their extensive database.  Their BS "grades"?  Not so much.

Quinn, Sherman, David. All I would say deserved it more.

Luke had a good year but they all had better.

I hate on PFF grades a lot but they're pretty accurate for the most part. They're not like ESPN's QBR and made of magical formulas they never release. They're pretty open about how they grade players and there's a reason people around the league use them. That said, they're not the end all be all.

So our 1st team All Pro MLB, Center, and FB aren't elite? You must need to be the second coming of Jesus to get a damn blue strip next your name. Also how the hell is Robert Lester our best player in the secondary when he only got starter minutes for like 4 games?

Pff watched a lot more film than the voters do, and while kalilis very good it is not like we got a powerful running game that could bank on 3+yard up the middle every time like we could a couple of years ago. Kalil is at his best at the second level but with last year's guard he rarely got there.

Voters count tds, pff blocks. Tolbert is not the best blocker.

Luke does not cover well enough. And pff focus a lot more on not doing anything bad as suppose to doing some things really great instead of very good.

PFF is generally accurate, but does have a some notable biases/errors...such Evan Mathis (of course), Ben Hartstock being the best TE halfway through last season, Von Miller being the best LB by only playing half a season...etc, etc

My comments on the Panthers - I'm actually really surprised Charles Johnson is rated lower..and their excuse for him being lower is BS. He was damn near elite according to them last season.

I'm glad Cotchery is rated well, nice surprise, and I still hate Roman Harper

The "grades" for the players shows just how bad metrics based scouting truly is. Star, Cam and Big Money just "good" starters.. Kuechly, Kalil and TD just "high quality"? Complete joke by PFF.

What I take away from this is that 65.5% of our starting roster is considered average or better, not bad at all. I do think I few people should be considered elite on them team, but to each their own. Not sure what every other teams breakdown of average and above players are, but i'd be willing to bet we are at the higher end of the spectrum.

If a few of the rookies and unproven guys play well, that % only goes higher.
