Lester had a pretty limited role last year. I would chalk him up under "not enough information" before I put him ahead of the veterans in our secondary like Harper, DeCoud and Cason. Heck I would probably put Melvin White ahead of Lester because he made some big time plays for us last year. But I see where you're coming from.

DPOY is a popularity contest? Richard Sherman and Willis are definitely more "popular" than Kuechly. The writers that vote for these awards are looking at film all the time, they're not fan voted like the Pro Bowl.

Just checked out Atlanta's depth chart...surprised to see they didn't get as much love as ESPN and others give them. Lots of average and not much else for the Falcons.

DROY and OROY are sometimes used for promotional purposes to relate to a larger fan fanbase. More fans would follow if Kuechly win it than Willis or Sherman. Promotion is big for the league. Notice the many comments defending Kuechly for not being rated an elite player and barely anyone notice Cam is just rated a good starter. Good starter my ass. Tell a DC he will game plan for a good starter and then tell him it's Cam. That smile on that DC would turn into a frown quick.

According to that mock contract negotiation that NFP is doing, a player that is top five in their position get's paid like they are elite.

 

If that's the case, Kuechly, Kalil, and Tolbert are elite because they are all top five in their respective positions.

You're spending too much time on reddit.  That post DPOY poo storm anti-Kuechly circle jerk is getting to you.

 

Could some of the other candidates have won it over Luke?  Sure, and I wouldn't have even been mad.  But the same thing is true with Keek... he was just as deserving of the award also.  If you haven't been able to notice the dramatic improvement in our defense since Luke took over then I don't know what to tell you.  It's about more than PFF stats.

 

PFF is an extremely good source for their extensive database.  Their BS "grades"?  Not so much.
