NFL.com draft grade (I know you guys care so much)

It really remains to be seen.

Anyone picked in any postition can turn out to be a great player, it's all up to the individual really.

That being said, Cam's blindside is still up in the air. I don't believe you can sustain long term success with a patch work line the way ours currently is.

so Cotchery, Avant, and Underwood arent vet WRs?

Of course they are veteran WRs. No need for rhetorical questions. Though you took my words out of context, at the end of the day, I still believe that we need a veteran WR (as in an additional WR).

Now, just to add a little clarity, most people who know football will admit that Cotchery, Avant and Underwood are at most WR3s.  Indeed, look at the NFL landscape and name me another team where any one of these guys starts as a WR1 or 2. Not saying that there are definitely not any out there, but it will be a stretch.  They are guys who you may play regularly in the slot, or as a back-up coming off the bench.  Now, sure they may be leaned upon as regular starters here---because that's the best we can do in a pinch---but this has more to do with our cap than anything else (or, at least, that had better be the reason).  To think that these guys are going to come to the Panthers and all of a sudden change their stripes as solid, possession receivers is optimistic---if not unrealistic---but anything can happen.  Will they be able to, or even have to, carry the load along with Kelvin Benjamin is anyone's guess.  That being said, I would like one more legitimate threat at WR. IT would be nice to have a guy who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Cotchery, Avant and Underwood aren't necessarily that type of WR, and their respective careers have really proven that out (their play on the field, and the fact that they couldn't even get on the field half the time in favor of more talented players).  We're not necessarily talking about spring chickens here.  Their is an ample body of work to help form realistic expectations.

I think if we'd had a draft that Bucky boy liked better/graded higher, we'd be worse off in the long run. Gettleman put all his time and resouces into what we needed vs. what was available, while the media guys have a deadline to evaluate and grade all 32 teams. They may as well throw darts at a board when grading the draft. It's a joke.

i see what youre saying. perhaps i am being optimistic. but this team resurrected the careers of LaFell, Ginn, and Hixon. and Cotchery, Avant, and Underwood are a better trio than the other three were. even if all we have is a #2 learning to be a #1, and a bunch of #3's and #4's, i'll venture to say the production will increase significantly in 2014. Especially if the Panthers can sign some more tackle help after training camp.
