That's ignorant man.  Weapons in the AR-15 family like the M-16 and all its derivatives will kill you just as dead.   They are essentially .22 calibre (.223 to be exact).  They might not have the stopping power aka knock you on your ass power, but once the bullet enters your body it will bounce around because it doesn't have the velocity to "escape" your body; bullet enters a body, hits a bone and rebounds....hits another bone and rebounds again until all it's momentum is spent. 

That's why the .22 is good for lose up assassinations. Strong enough to enter the skull but not to exit.

I don't see any complaints when an athlete has a collection of sports cars... I mean how many cars does one guy need , right.. 1 or 2 should be enough. ..who needs 4??

This is the most ignorant statement I have seen on this thread. There is no such thing as a "assault rifle", any gun can be used in a assault. I use a Ak because its a cheap bullet with a lot of knock down power. Your talking 30 ct a bullet compared to $1.25 for a 30-06. They both kill, ones just cheaper.

The only time having a .223 would be a problem is possibly if we were up against fighting men with battle armor equal to ours.  Insurgents sometimes would use heroin which is a powerful painkiller, but that didn't really help them too much.  A .223 round is just fine for a standard rifle squad in the kind of wars we fight today.  Stopping power like the M1 Garand is nice.....but not strictly necessary.  And the basic M-16 is ridiculously accurate thanks to superior iron sights.  Swiss cheese.

 

Very good info here but I would like to chime in that any FMJ bullet will do the same thing. Ironically its illegal for troops to use hollow point bullets because of the UN treaty. They are considered cruel, also when the M-16 was invented the bullet was made small because of RPM that could be fired and because the M-16 was unique in design that the barrel made the bullet yaw. In other words when it hit the body it would tumble around in the body causing major damage but would not kill. The theory behind that was if you kill someone it only takes one man out of the fight. If you injure someone it takes two men out of the fight at least.
