Gettlemen can't fix everything at one time.

He's fixed the D-line.  And we drafted Kony so he doesn't have to fix it again in a year or two.  It seems that everyone fails to realize is that the way you get good is to draft really good football players.

You don't pass up a really good player (who you have have a 1st round grade on) for an average player (whom you have a 2nd/3rd round grade on) just because you have a need at that position.

Let's just assume the players you draft are worth the grade the team has pegged them at.

You draft Kony who has a first round grade.  Next year we get a tackle in the 1st round who has a first round grade.  2 years later we have two first round talents starting on the team.

Now, let's say you pass on Kony and take Moses whom you have a low 2nd/3rd round grade one.  Next year you take a DE in the first round who has a 1st round grade.  2 years later we have a pro bowl DE and an average tackle.

Gettlemen has said it over and over and over.  When you reach you get burned.  I want some better players on the O-line too but not at the expense of having a great team year in and year out. If you don't have to replace guys you reached on in the draft every few years you end up being able to pick great players even if they're not a need because you don't have any needs.  This is what the 49's and Seahawks have done.  We're doing it too even though we still have needs because in about 2 years we're going to be loaded for bear instead of reaching to plug holes on players we reached on to begin with to "fill a need".

Now, on to Webb.  Bears fans opinions mean less than nothing.  Webb isn't the worse tackle in the league.  Far from it.  He's young and improving.  Cam is very mobile.  We just drafted a RB who excels at picking up the blitz and blocking.  He'll be a lot better here than he was in Chicago.  Gettlemen has an almost perfect record in getting low cost free agents who play good to great.  At the very worst case Gettlemen is doing what he does best.  Churning up the bottom of the roaster for depth and diamonds in the rough.

Kudos on making this much sense.  I am sorry no one has replied but that happens when you make intelligent posts sometimes.  I agree and some things to ponder.  This guy beat out Chris Williams, who was a first round pick.  He has three years starting experience, which is more than Bruce Campbell.  He was thrown to the wolves and beat down by his QB and city.  He could excel here.  I cannot understand how members of this forum could see Mike Mitchell come in here as a bust with nothing but speed and a questionable track record.  Then he leaves here with a huge deal because he was coached up and put in the right situation.  Now all of a sudden, there is no way in hell any other player could make that kind of transition and Gettleman is an idiot.  It is borderline insanity.  Anyway, good post.

wouldn't help the current sity, despite what you think.

And you know this how? You've seen these kids play at the pro level?

The thing is you don't know and neither do these experts and general managers, they just have a better idea. If the draft was a sure thing then everyone would get all-pro players with every pick. So with a 6th or 7th round pick why not try to get a player that can help you at a position of need that way you're not digging in the dumpster and having to decide between two players while asking yourself "who sucks worse?"

Crazy concept, I know.

That just tells you how bad the other options are.  No one is optimistic about Chandler at LT, we just know that Bell at LT would almost certainly be a complete disaster.

Chandler and Josh Norman are our unofficial pre-season offensive and defensive MVPs.  That goes to show you how much you can read into preseason performances.

i got chandler winning the LT. he got all the tools(great feet) and some(very strong). he just needs experience.

webb really??? it almost like dave is trolling at this point. sure webb has experience, but thats at sucking. like others in this thread, no rookie during the draft or after, is better?? ok dave said there was a huge falloff after the top four OLman, but you dont draft UDFAs!!! sign a couple, all the cost is maybe 8,000 signing bonus. its like they dont want their ranking to be proven wrong, so lets not sign any OT and super cheap price.  sigh

i maybe the only bell supporter on this board, he saved the panthers form otah quitting and his pay is VERY cheap(waits for joke....).

take away his two best games and two worst; bell is average. you need average players, cause not all teams can be full of all-pros. that said i still believe chandler will win the LT, hes a dancing bear. im just scared at the notion if bell and chandler get hurt, what happens?

at best, Bell is an average back-up NFL OT. As a starter, he is, at best, a few feet under the bottom of the barrel
