Panthers work out free agent OT J'Marcus Webb

that tells me ya haven't been paying enough attention to him.

For the handful of games he played, sure I did. He looked like a guard that did a decent job pulling into the running lanes. There are lots of those in the nfl. Doesnt make him a good bookend though. If he stayed at guard, he would probably be #3 or #4, behind amini and turner.

His skill set is for tackle not guard. And he still did a bang up job all things considering.

I'm hoping chandler is our starting LT unless we sign somebody more quality.

You guys do realize that Gettleman knew what this team had at tackle before the draft.

I still have confidence in Gett.  Until he gives me reason not to.

Gettleman is probably sticking to his plan.  Now, I am sure his plan had Gross at tackle in 2014, but poo happens.

you cannot stick to that plan, if you planned on having Gross at OT in 2014 because he is not there anymore. hopefully their is a backup plan.

to give you an idea how Bears fans felt about him, here are some of the comments on an August 18, 2013 (less than 2 weeks before the Bears cut Webb) NBC Sports article stating: "Report: J’Marcus Webb has salary reduced... Instead of making $1.323 million in salary in 2013, Webb’s base salary is now $630,000"

Turnstiles are pretty expensive these days (78 upvotes, 1 downvote)

$630,000 is still too much. (79 upvotes, 2 downvotes)

If I had to appraise his worth as a tackle...I’d go somewhere in the $0.00 range with a nod towards getting someone (anyone) else to play his position. (25 upvotes, 2 downvotes)

Forget reducing his salary. Webb should have his job reduced, to non-existence. (27 upvotes, 1 downvote)

the best news headline I’d like to see is Bears cut Webb (24 upvotes, 1 downvotes)

Overpaid turd (19 upvotes, 1 downvote)

He sucks and there’s a reason that he is taking a pay cut. (12 upvotes, zero downvotes)

Webb has got to be the worst tackle in all of football or one of the worst starting OT’s for sure. He has had 44 starts and is just plain terrible. We keep waiting for him to get better and it’s always the same maybe this year he’ll get it. ... Good riddance. Beardown!!!!!!! (77 upvotes, 2 downvotes)

Somebody has to help pay for Trestman’s new $3M dollar house on the northshore. (zero upvotes, 4 downvotes)

sounds promising

Rotoworld:

"(Webb was) among the worst starting players in the league last season, not even a demotion and pay cut could save Webb's roster spot. ... The 2010 seventh-rounder has three years of starting experience to fall back on, but his tape isn't going to do him any favors in his search for a new home. ... Webb has failed time and again as a starter... Webb has struggled mightily in pass protection and not been an especially terrific run blocker, either. ... (he was) destroyed as Jay Cutler's blindside protector"

Other than the above free agent OT J'Marcus Webb may be ok. :)
