Manziel mania: Why the phenomenon?

he was a good player in college and won the Heisman as a freshman.

he is a product of cam's success. before cam people were very skeptical on taking "running" qbs. now that hes had success people are getting hyped about the next guy who can run.

Hes not average, he broke cam's record as a redshirt frosh for gods sake. But hes extremely entertaining to watch, and im not sure if some of you in your 30s and 40s can relate, but as a college kid, people my age adore him because he fits that whole college boy/frat guy persona. For whatever reason, people have some illusion of johnny manziel shotgunning 5 beers then going out and throwing for 400 yards and then ending the game by banging aj mccarrons girlfriend

That is a good perspective on it.

The best comparison I can think of is:

Johnny Football = Broadway Joe Namath

Johnny Football just has the benefit of social media to help him along.

He was highly recruited coming out of college, put up great numbers at school and almost won two Heismans. I think he is worthy of praise. The problem is, he lacks a lot of physical attributes needed to be successful. Not to say that you can't be smaller and a great QB (ie: Wilson) but it helps to be humble and recognize the tools around you which I don't see him doing. What I see is another Brady Quinn.

I hope Manziel is great in the pros. It's not often you get to see a small white guy juke world class athletes out of their shoes.

And that is why he is so popular and espn is falling over themselves for him this quote.

And I don't see the problem. At least he can play. If he sucks then they should stop talking about him, but as long as he still balls out I'll enjoy it.

When the Browns were on the clock the NFL draft received the highest rating of the day during that 10 minute interval. His hype whether football related or not was a massive win for the NFL and they will continue it until ratings decrease or someone else can provide that boost. I hate the business side of the NFL, unfortunately it's not going anywhere.

Ever since the Manziel phenomenon I have been asking myself why this guy is so popular. He's just a football player and an average one at best. Unlike T3bow who had a religious following this guy have nothing. I was also listening to mike&mike and boom that was the exact topic. I'm not following. Doesn't make sense at all the national reaction.

I dislike him but there is no question he was one of the most productive college players to ever play the game. So was The Golden Calf of Bristol...and he's no longer in the NFL.

The media is saying that. Give it a couple of years and you'll hear more about that. No players like being overshadowed by one player.

I think you're trying to write your own narrative...
