Does talent trump trouble?

I think we all need to wait to see what comes of all this.  I deal with domestic violence all the time in my job and have little tolerance for abusers.  But from what I can tell so far, she had minor bruises which didn't even require treatment.  Was this domestic violence or a spat between 2 people which got physical.  Lets be real here, if Hardy wanted to hurt you there would be more than a few minor bruises.  The same with the alcoholism accusations.  Without a blood alcohol level being done, does anyone even know how much alcohol he had in his system or how often he drinks?  Instead of putting your own biases into the discussion which is serving your own agenda, lets try and look at this objectively and not do what we castigate the media for doing on a daily basis.

Yeah I know it goes against human nature...............

Look, everyone has issues. Everyone. When these issues start to interfere with your daily life (relationships, career, etc) then it becomes a problem. It may just be he has extremely poor decision making skills that lead him to surround himself with crazy people. Either way, it needs to be addressed. He is a hugely talented guy, quirky to say the least, but hopefully it will all work out. Jerry just doesn't play when it comes to this stuff.

I agree. I don't expect anyone to be perfect, especially not a professional athlete.

His problem may just be the company he keeps. Which, to be honest, is the biggest problem for most people. But, I can't imagine Hardy hanging out with a bunch of Rhodes Scholars. That's just not who he is. Just as long as it doesn't impact his career, I don't and should not care about his personal life. That's for him to live with and answer to.

I just really hope Jerry doesn't prematurely cut ties. Hardy is a great talent with a high motor and a bright future. This team needs his crazy - on the field.

Meh I could lie and get on my high horse and pass judgement but the truth is if he crushes Matt Ryan's face on Sunday, I am going to fuging yell and cheer and flip-off Falcon fans. I have never and will never physically harm my wife and the situation with Hardy is pretty pathetic and sad, but the truth is I want the Kraken to break Drew Brees in half.

As a Carolina Panthers football fan, I'd still cheer on game days when Hardy breaks a QB in half - whether he's guilty or not.

As a husband, brother, uncle, cousin.... no I wouldn't cheer for his personal, individual success if he beat this young lady the way she described  - though I seriously doubt it went down like that.

So, I guess unless the trouble prevented him from showcasing the talent, then it doesn't matter. If you're talking about an athlete that makes plays to win games, I don't really care if they're not angels. I just wouldn't buy their jerseys. But I'd sure cheer them on at sporting events.

I look at athletes as regular men and women, with exceptional ability in their sport/craft. That's all. Not role models for my boys. Just entertainment. I never looked up to Barry Sanders, or Walter Peyton, or Michael Jordan, or Chipper Jones as role models. They're athletes I liked to watch play/perform and cheer for during sporting events.

Not denying anything (lest I be hung up at the witch trial too) but at this point all I have heard is that he was inebriated and had been out drinking.  What additional information do you have that constitutes he has a "problem with alcohol"

The guy was locked up for assault.  I guess other than that it was just another night of binge drinking.

Charlotte Mecklenburg County Judge Rebecca Thorne Tin called Hardy a potential threat and ordered him not to have any contact with the accuser and to attend three Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week.

I guess other than a judge who has seen hundreds of abusive drunks pass by her bench over the years, there is no proof.

Since Hardy was intoxicated when this happened(they both were), that's a pretty standard court order. That doesn't mean he's an alcoholic.

Some of these things are procedural. I dont think a judge in a ten minute arraignment can not really look into a crystal ball and tell if a defendant is an alcoholic.  This looks like a preventative measure to me but I only have partial information to go on so I would not necessarily call it a "fact".

I wish some of you people would come off your high horses. OMG Greg Hardy went to a club and was drinking. You expect him to sit at home and fuging knit some sweaters? There is nothing wrong with an athlete or celebrity doing the same legal things we all do. You may need to do some research on what an addiction to alcohol really is. Drinking when your out having a good time is not an addiction. Alcoholics normally dont advertise they they are alcoholics. Hes just young and showing off, impressing his internet friends on instagram etc. Unless you know him personally and see his actions on a daily basis dont assume someone has a fuging alcohol addiction.

This.
