2014 World Cup

I agree with everything you said except taking Donovan over Wondo. Wondo has been an absolute spark plug for this team recently. No chance I'm leaving him behind.

I kind of agree with you there, but Jurgen said he was looking at Donovan only as a forward so he would've had to have been chosen over one of those players (in Jurgen's mind).

Yep and I don't think you take Donovan (and his form) over Wondo or Altidore. Altidore while being a complete non factor overseas has been another spark plug for the National team. Also, he has the young legs to recover quicker in the elements.

Agreed. For whatever reason, Wondo has been a lightning rod for USMNT. Altidore has been quality as well.

Lalas isn't question the fact that it happened. He is questioning the timing of it. Lalas said if Klinsmann wanted to do it, it should have been after Donovan's sabbatical. And maybe it should have.

Every WCQ matters. Donovan decided some didn't to him. If we hadn't taken care of business, his assist wouldn't have meant anything. Can you imagine Cam Newton deciding he didn't want to play 4-5 games in the middle of the season because he was tired, and then coming back in game 16 when he knows we're going to the playoffs?

We lack leadership? You can't be serious? Altidore, Dempsey, Bradley, Howard, Beasley, and Jones have like 500 caps between them. We have leadership and experience at literally every position.

I can't say I disagree with Timmy Chandler. He shouldn't have made it. But most of the time, the exclusion of a defender doesn't open the door for a winger. That's more tactical.

All I can say is we'll see what happens.

Hopefully this move pays off.

I agree. Neither of us actually know whether this is a good move or a bad move. We just have to see and hope that it pays off. We'll both be cheering just as fervently as the other.

I had a feeling this move was coming after the Mexico game - I just can't say I agree with it. Obviously the team is more important to me than one player (I was in favor of the Smitty move and he's my all-time favorite) but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Honestly...I've never even been a huge fan of Donovan - I was pissed, too, when he took off in qualifying. However, there's no denying what IMO he's STILL capable of bringing to the team (I'm not talking about Algeria here DM). I don't think the World Cup is the right time to "build for the future" like several of you have said. The World Cup is about selecting the 23 that give you the best chance of winning NOW....and that didn't happen.

Side note: NO WAY I leave Wando off that team. That guy has a knack for finding the ball in the right spot and finishing. He's a must. It's Altidore that I have a huge problem with. The guy plays with his back to the goal and tries to post up defenders and turn them. This isn't college - that poo doesn't work. He's complete garbage.

Unless your country is deep with talent, such as Spain or Germany, you don't include a player on your roster to maybe play 15 minutes. If someone gets hurt, you've got to know that player can go a full 90 if you absolutely have to.

Precisely.

AC Milan has a lab they do for physical and health metrics.

They have an exercise that based on the age of the player and how many times he can do it, they can determine how many years a player has left as well as stamina for a season.

I hate Landon isnt playing but they had to do this.

On a semi side note. Who was the kid on Germany that had a red card and couldnt play vs Spain in the last Cup? My buddy said Gomez but I thought it was anothee guy who is a stellar player.

Didn't Klose go two yellows to red against Serbia in 2010?

Sorry that you're lost.

Sorry that you're wrong.

Just look at what Jozy did in CONCACAF. Underwhelming in Europe against the elite of the elite? Sure, but he was also on the worst team in the league. Complete garbage? Not even close.

Newsflash: The World Cup is against the elite of the elite and the US isn't exactly the best team in the tournament.

He better carry that scoring over to the Cup because his last Cup play was undeniably complete and utter poo. I'm not wrong - he's not good.

Let go of the memories, it's not 2010 anymore. Jozy and Wondo are better options than Donovan in THIS World Cup. Especially at Forward.
