I don't even remember what my college professor had to say about the 2nd amendment, and my choice of college has nothing to do with the conversation.  But I suppose if I have to be an idiot, being a college educated one is better than any.

Who do you think is trying to gain optimus prime... I mean optimum power?  I'm curious who you think the threat of gaining too much power is.

The only people that have manipulated the Constitution is the NRA and gun advocates.

If gun advocates want to honor the Constitution, if they choose to exercise their right to own a gun, they should have to volunteer themselves for military duty whenever called upon.  At least that way they are actually honoring the purposes of the 2nd amendment.

you realize that the original drafts that you've alluded to weren't ratified for a reason, right?

that's like saying "the speed limit on I-77 is XX MPH, but they originally wanted it to be YY, therefore, it is YY"

It is not at all like that IMO. It would be more like they intended the speed limit to be XX MPH, but a powerful and influential lobby convinced the public and the leaders they bought it actually is YY MPH

I think the original text is necessary to better contextualize the intent of the amendment and it is likely that they shortened it because they felt it had redundancies that they believed were self evident, or were covered in other parts of the Constitution, therefore unnecessary.

"A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, being the best security of a free State; the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; but no one religiously scrupulous of bearing arms, shall be compelled to render military service in person"

Born and raised in Denmark, Europe but with a big heart for the States...

Though your laws regarding guns and the view on guns is just an area in which I simply can't understand you.

Here, its illegal to own a gun and I have never been put in a situation were I needed a gun in any way to protect myself. Maybe because no one else is carring a gun.

You are fortunate.

In some South American countries it is illegal to own a gun and those who own them rob and kidnap family members.  I refused to go to my wife's country because I could not legally bring my gun.  There is no way I'm going to travel in a country full of crime without a weapon.

    • You all make some great points.  I love the OT Trapilo pick but it is a round too soon.  Tells me someone is doing their homework.  He is a solid pass blocking RT and we need pass blockers to keep Bryce nice. About S--I want an early S too, but Richardson was not bad when he played.  Most players improve the most between years 1 and 2.  There are some decent safeties in this draft later, so maybe I have been looking at the Corvettes in the showroom when I should have been kicking tires in the used SUV lot. Regardless, with Moton's knee concerns, age, contract, etc.  I really would like to see us draft a legit starting-caliber, second tier OT now.  I watched Trapoli at the Sr Bowl and he has really strong pass pro form.  33" arms (OK) and he is 6'8".  There are others I like as well: Cam Williams, Texas Donovan Jackson, Ohio St. Charles Grant, W&M Anthony Belton, NC State Emory Jones, LSU Our coaching staff just showed us how they can develop young players.  Wait until the third or fourth and get one of these guys.  Take a year to prepare them.  Sign BC to another 1-year contract for insurance.  If our OL coaches are an asset and they have a year to work with one of these OTs above, let them do their jobs. In that second round pick slot, maybe we can get that Safety--might have to move up a bit--I would not be surprised to see a draft day trade of Zavala.  If other teams were scouting us properly, they should have seen a potential starter buried on the depth chart.
