Are Jags gonna cut Blackmon?

Recommended Posts

Here's what people miss when they talk about giving proven knuckleheads another chance...

Let's say you bring him in and you make him an important part of your offense. He has a great season and we make the playoffs. It's week 14 or 15 and everything's in place for a Super Bowl run and...

Wait, what? He got another DUI? Tested positive for drugs? Did something stupid? We've lost the guy that we built our offense around for the entire playoffs? CRAP!

Teammates don't want teammates who are likely to let them down.

Guys that have shown they'll continue to do stupid things even when they know they're under the gun? Not somebody you want to rely on.

He's got an alcohol problem, he needs help, I don't see why the guy shouldn't get another chance.

Because putting yourself in a position of depending on a guy who's already proven he's undependable isn't smart thinking.

Giving him a second chance with us, does not neccisarily mean you would put 100% faith in him. Give him a chance to prove himself the first year. When year two rolls around and he has maintained his good stature. Then you can put more faith in him.

The first year, I would treat him like a rookie. Let him show me what he can do. Run some plays for him. But I would not put absolute faith in that first year.

Dez has a 24 hour security team with him, why not give Justin one?

plus i have seen numerous times on this board, and in the media, that the reason why Avant and Cotchery were brought in was to help mentor the younger guys, which is really want Justin needs. this makes to much sense, so it will not happen.

Get your point, but I honestly can't even justify giving up a roster spot for him.

Definitely wouldn't trade anything for him.

Josh Hamilton also had someone with him at most times during his time in Texas. He finally got rid of him when he signed with the Angels, and he seems have straightened himself out. Some of you are so quick to give up people. By this logic we should've cut Smitty years ago.

Vet minimum, yeah I would try it out. Trade? Not gonna happen.

He is still just a kid. I would be willing to give him a chance. Like has been said. Give him a chaparone, best friend, driver kind of guy. If he can stay on the straight and narrow, he would be worth the effort.

That said. Does he even want to stay on the straight and narrow. Some folks would rather have a good time than just about anything else. I lost a cousin because he would rather be out and about than anything else.

Would be Kerry Collins all over again. With that being said I would give him a chance. Just give yourself outs in the contract & don't let it hinder us more then that season.

I can honestly say Blackmon has been one of the most disappointing cases of a player I really liked coming out of college not learning to grow up. I really just don't understand the guy, doesn't seem to have a personality for finding trouble, just seems to get in it. Blackmon needs to go to rehab and use his time off getting his problems under control, until he addresses what the real issue is, he's going to keep repeating the same mistakes.

After his yearlong suspension is done and if the Jags release him, I'd sit down and have a long meeting with him and his therapist to figure out the root to his problems so you can help prevent them. Only then would I even consider bringing him in, I just don't see that happening though.
