List of top players not drafted

Hurst is hurt, dude. Simple as that. Ozzie Newsome picked him up just as soon as he could.  Hurt players go undrafted every year. Most times GMs just don't want to wait while they are shopping like kids in a candy store, plus they gigure that they can do what Newsome did.  You can get burned investing in a hurt player if they take a longer time to heal than you had planned (I'm thinking this what happened to the 9ers and Marcus lattimore). Hurst has a good prognosis however, and I'll bet that in the long term Ozzie got a steal (as Hurst is a smart guy who had a round 2-3 grade even before he got hurt).

Brandon Thomas is out for 2014--he was drafted.  Hurst will play this year.  I am not sure it is that simple.

I wonder...do GMs and Scouts know things we don't?!?! =)

It could be that 1.  There is more to the injury.  2.  He's not as good as we thought.  3.  Cthullu decred he not be drafted.

Tiny Richardson was in the same boat as far as promising prospect, but not drafted for some mysterous reasons...

I found this to be interesting because it reveals how little we actually know about the NFL talent evaluation process.   For example, how many of you (me too) were screaming for James Hurst in the fourth round?  Fifth round?  Sixth round?  I was--all three rounds.  I would have been happy to hear, "The Carolina Panthers select James Hurst, Tackle, North Carolina" in the third round.

And this is why you can't take UNC homers seriously as they cry that Hurst is the savior of the Left Tackle position.  32 teams full of professionals passed on him, and he's the 20th ranked UDFA, yet this guy,  and many others, would have used a third round pick and started him week 1 just because he's from Crapple Hill.

Your bias against UNC ruins any chance you have of being considered credible--I think he was rated higher for several reasons.

1. Jonathan Cooper (Cardinals) said great things about Hurst

2.  He looked good vs Clowney

3.  He was high on many boards across the nation until the injury--no homerism at play when the board originates in Texas.

Hurst's school had nothing to do with it.  I wanted Hurst in the fourth round on, but I did not want Boston.

I don't even particuarily hated Carolina, but saying you'd take an undrafted Tackle from Carolina in the third shows blindness.

Here is a wake up call for you, and the other Carolina-homers, CLOWNEY HALF ASSED IT LAST YEAR.  USC played 13 games, and Clowney only had sacks in three of those games, for a total of 3.  Should we have drafted the 10 other left tackles that "stopped" Clowney? Hurst holding him to nothing means exactly that, nothing.

Finally, drafting players with injury concerns is the last thing we need to waste a pick on, especially at Tackle.  Obviously we could have had a shot at him as a UDFA if we were that interested, and didn't want to waste a pick.
