Eli Manning gets PAID

Recommended Posts

The Giants gave up a lot to get him because they thought he would be great but he ended up being mediocre most of the time and good some of the time. They could have let him play this season and based on his play either extend him or franchise him. But to make him the highest paid player in the NFL is ludicrous.

Is Eli Manning the most valuable player in the NFL?

Whatever they gave up to get him is meaningless.

They won a Super Bowl.

Just because he is the highest paid player in the NFL doesn't mean he is or has to be the best player.

Can't imagine what his older brother can bring, along with Brady, and Rivers'.....

Eli is not overrated, IMO. He has plenty of naysayers. That said, a Super Bowl does not mean much when talking about how good a QB is. Rings get you into Canton, but do not cement your status as a great QB.

The Giants fan arguing in favor of the contract used the fact that they gave up a lot to get him as part of the reason they spent so much to keep him.

And just because they won a Super Bowl with Eli doesn't make him a $100 million dollar player. David Tyree made a great catch in the Super Bowl and he hasn't cashed in on it.

And I didn't say he has to be the best player. I asked if he was the most valuable player. Shouldn't the highest paid player in the NFL also be the most valuable?

C'mon with the David Tyree analogy

Whats Eli got something like 3-4 consec playoffs appearance 1SB win, Clearly Since Eli's arrival the Giants have become a force in the NFC/NFL and Eli probably can only get better as a QB

I don't believe the highest paid player in the NFL has to be the most valuable, Value is Subjective from team to team & Clearly the Giants feel He's valuable to them.

You can honestly think that Eli Manning the main reason the Giants have become a force?

And Jesus stop bringing up the Super Bowl when defending Eli and his enormous contract. He had a 55% completion percentage that game and threw 2 TDs and 1 INT, he wasn't the hero of that game. He was bailed out several times. Eli wasn't the reason they won that Super Bowl, he didn't lose the game for them but he didn't win it on his own either.

If you read my other posts I said he is one of the reasons, and we all know how Important the QB position is in the NFL

And C'mon man I'm not saying he's the sole reason, but obviously the Giants traded up to get Eli with a goal of building the franchise around him and winning the super bowl and obviously they did that.

So why not pay him??

There is too much lets look for reason to "Hate" Eli then there is logic in this thread

As a QB, Eli really isn't all that great, in fact I can't even put him in the top 12 quarterbacks in the league. Yeah the Giants have done well since he got there, well I hate to break it to you guys but the Vultures did extremely well with shittastic quarterbacks. Hell just look at the Giants with Collins under center... He's very limited on the types of throws he can make, he is just as inconsistent as another much maligned QB... He's had the benefit of a good receiving corps as well to help him out but this year it's decidedly worse than at any other point in his career. What I think a lot of you are forgetting is that he's behind a top 5 line in football with one of the best defenses in the game backing him up. Anywhere else and he'd be really struggling, even in the same sort of system as the Giants use.

Extreamly Well? Collins had 1 solid year helped them to a SB, after that the Giants Did Nothing, untill Eli started taking snaps

The rest of what you said is strictly opinion.

I'm not going to take anything away fom the guy because he is surrounded with other quality players. Takes more then just a Oline and D to have sustained success at QB. Grossman had a top 5 o-line and a great defense backing him up and hes out of the league.

Hes the Franchise QB of a Successful NY Football team 2yrs removed from a SB victory what are they suppose to do pay him less then Matt Stafford.[

NFL salaries especially that of the QB are exploding Eli's probably will not be at the top very long

apparently you haven't met Brandon. Any musing about QB Eli Manning strictly criticizes him based on his passer rating and conveniently ignoring the fact that every single year since his rookie season he has helped lead the Giants to a playoff berth, in the toughest division in the league, helped them to a SB run, can spread the ball around better than most QBs, posted his best passer rating this past year while throwing to guys who are wide open and try to catch the ball with their chest, without Burress for a big part of the year, and boasts an at least solid collection of 4th quarter comebacks already and he is just starting to hit his prime now.

The only thing I gather from this deal is the retardedness of the draft, and the need to come up with a rookie pay scale similar to what the NBA has in place.

The bottom line to me is that Eli, like him, love him, think he's overrated, whatever.....is an established starting QB for a championship team......

and even with this big deal he gets less guaranteed money than a rook in Detroit that hasn't thrown a pass in anger in the NFL.

i am a giants fan. have been since the giants were just starting to be good in the mid 80's. i'm glad they have locked eli up for a few years down the road. although being a giant's fan, i will be the first to admit he is good, not great. sometimes he's really good, other times he look's lost. but i would rather have him, than not.
