Fricking Ozzie Newsome signs Hurst

top dawg

LOL did you seriously just justify a bad contract.

Ya CJ, Stew, Cam, Luke's contract will all be an afterthought as the salary cap rises.

That is the type of thinking that will kill your team.

That's the thing. Just because you say it's a "bad" contract doesn't make it a bad contract.  Flacco is a Super Bowl winning, franchise QB.  His contract is not even the worst in the NFL for franchise QBs relatively. Moreover, it will almost assuredly be restructured in a couple of years anyway.

At the end of the day, this thread isn't about Flacco's contract.  He got his deal, and more than a few believe it was worth it.

Joe Flacco has a Superbowl ring.  He made some great throws in the playoffs that year.  Not saying he deserves to be the highest paid QB in the NFL, but he's done more than Cam as of right now.

What does Cam have to do with what I said?

My point was, just because Ozzie signed doesn't mean he's going to be a stud. 31 other GMs had 3 days and 7 rounds to draft the guy and no one did. Obviously there is some concern there. I don't get bashing Gettleman for not signed an UDFA that majority of the league didn't want.

Football guys don't really have favorite teams. They live and breathe football. Most of their knowledge comes from ESPN and Twitter.

So, when UDFA signing comes around, players sign with people who they think run a great organization. I'm sure Hurst has heard about how genius newsome is (from ESPN) and Coleman has heard that Brees is the greatest.

You have a point. I will grant you that. But, you must also ask yourself how a tackle who was projected by most as a 2-3 round grade before he got hurt was not drafted. He is hurt, dude.  Simple as that. That's why the "majority of the league" as you put it "didn't want" him.  He also has a good prognosis. It's just gonna take some time.

I do take issue with the "bashing".  I am not "bashing" Gettleman. I am questioning the strategy of drafting a late round RB  over a higher graded tackle with a good prognosis in light of the Panthers' specific situation.  I mean, it's arguable that Hurst would have been the better value for the Panthers mid to long term. G-man obviously feels differently. On its face, he may feel very differently, but, then again, he could be laying the groundwork for a cut.  i don't know, but I certainly feel it's worth discussing.

Rar, I'm a Walmart UNC fan and I want the Panthers to draft every Carolina player!!!!

But, but, but Hurst shutdown Clowney last year, he must be so good?  Oh wait, Clowney only had 1 sack in 3 games out of 13.  We better get on the phone with the other 10 left tackles who shut down Clowney last year too.

Ozzie signed a lot of undrafted free agents, most of whom won't make the team.

Unless Hurst becomes an all-pro starter at some point, there's really no knock on us not drafting him considering no one else did either.

I disagree. By most accounts we need an LT. If not that, we certainly could use some depth on the O-line if nothing else.  Hurst doesn't need to become an All-Pro to justify us picking him.

As for no one drafting him, the man is hurt, but still has a good prognosis.
