Fricking Ozzie Newsome signs Hurst

top dawg

Recommended Posts

Now, say what you want, but if Ozzie signed James Hurst, then why couldn't we do it? I do know that Hurst had to be worth signing with his background and experience, and the fact that Newsome signed him is all of the seal of approval that i need.

Now I am not saying that G-man didn't try to sign Hurst, whom Carolina should have been very familiar with, and vice versa ("Carolina" pun intended), but if he did I wonder why Hurst wouldn't have chosen to come to Charlotte (even more than Brandon Coleman).  Perhaps G-man wasn't interested.   Newsome sure was though.

We do have another RB though.  Perhaps it will make more sense come June 1.

Its stupid to critisize a GM for not signing a UDFA. For all we know he could have been bustings Hurst's balls to sign here.. People act like if he doesnt, he didnt even try. Wtf is that logic.

Not saying top dawg is about that.

I think gettleman means it when he says, i trust our evaluation. I have a feeling many of you are going to be pleasantly suprised by our O-line, especially LT. Very very similar to the "wtf!! We have no DBs! How could gettlmen be so stupid to not bring in more? We shoyld have drafted a CB! We are rolling in with this group week one?! What a fugging mooron. 6-10"

#2 defense folks. With no name DBs.

Newsome also made Flacco the highest paid QB in the league.

Apples to oranges. This is about signing talent, not handing out paychecks.

BTW, Flacco's contract will be an afterthought as the salary cap rises.

Yeah gettleman is aweful at that. You know, its not like he signed melvin white or robert lester last year as UDFA, who played significant roles in our #2 defese.

Wouldnt it be aweaome if one of his UDFAs had a pick six to seal our division title! The day that happens pigs will fly huh?

Yeah that's all we needed was another o lineman on injured reserve great pick, after kugbila even if he does come back stronger than ever it's a little risky at this point...even tho I like the guy and the way he played against sub par clowney( I say subpar bc he new he was getting paid next year)just a risk we need healthy guys who can play now on the oline

I respect that, and it makes sense. As for me, I did say that maybe he did try. I don't know.  The bigger question to me is why we didn't take the chance on Hurst in the 6th when we drafted Gaffney.  We probably could have easily competed without Gaffney and had a guy that may have been the actual replacement for Jordan Gross.  I think that it is safe to assume that but for the injury, Hurst would have been at last a third round grade.  Seems to me that he was the better value pick for us in the distant future.  Running backs are so much easier to acquire, and I have no doubt that if not during cuts, we could have easily drafted a guy next year.  Something must be up on the RB front.

I am talking about James Hurst this year.

i am not going to talk about the value of UDFAs, but suffice it to say that they can and do make an impact in the NFL, and not only help seal divisional titles, but Super Bowl titles. And, that's not a question, it's a statement.

I get it, but I am just saying that with our relative lack of depth on the line (even more if Wharton retires), it seems like that would be a risk/sacrifice that was worth taking/making (in regards to our last pick).  It's all good though.

Joe Flacco has a Superbowl ring.  He made some great throws in the playoffs that year.  Not saying he deserves to be the highest paid QB in the NFL, but he's done more than Cam as of right now.

LOL did you seriously just justify a bad contract.

Ya CJ, Stew, Cam, Luke's contract will all be an afterthought as the salary cap rises.

That is the type of thinking that will kill your team.

Listen if this Hurst guy was as good as you claim him to be he would NOT have gone undrafted. There is probably something NFL teams know about this kid that made them not want to draft him. They probably didnt think he had a chance to start or even be a decent backup. Most likely a roster cut/practice squad guy. If he had potential to be our LT then he would have gotten picked up
