Higher than I expected.

Carolina Panthers

Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman got some great value picks, though Florida State receiver Kelvin Benjamin went about as projected as the 28th overall pick. However, getting Missouri defensive lineman Kony Ealy with the 60th pick was a steal, if you believe the many first-round grades he had. Perhaps the best value Carolina got came in the third round, with LSU guard Trai Turner, a true mauler who fits the Panthers’ power offense perfectly. Tre Boston is a nice-sized safety who will help in the defensive backfield, and Stanford running back Tyler Gaffney fits the Panthers’ power prototype. They still need receivers, and Benjamin is an unfinished project, so it would be fair to ding the Panthers a bit because they didn’t take advantage of such a deep wideout class.

Grade: A-minus

wow, others are killin the panthers. for the whole draft the word is value (once you do some digging). most draftsites base grades on filling needs, which is what dave uses FA for(mostly). my take is they did GREAT 1-3, then lost stream 4-7. but thats the important rounds and later rounds are for ST. add in philly brown and the LB they got afterwards, thats part of the draft too. plus they got plenty of comp for the backup C spot, which is a question mark along with the other 7 OL spots.

We are not a power running team. We are a team that like to run, and wants to use power blocking to get the job done.

Staley and Turner fit that very well.

Our Oline got bigger. That will help as well.

I like our draft. But then again I didn't have pie in the sky expectations coming in. I wanted to get better, and we did get better.

Here's a SI draft grade gem from a few years ago.

BROWNS Selected a potentially dominant LT in Wisconsin's Joe Thomas at No. 3 and made the deal with the Cowboys to move up and get QB of the future Brady Quinn of Notre Dame with the 22nd pick. For those decisions alone, the Browns get an A.

RAIDERS Did the smart thing by taking JaMarcus Russell and get bonus points for unloading Randy Moss on the Patriots for a fourth-round pick (used to select Cincinnati cornerback John Bowie). RB Michael Bush of Louisville looks like a fourth-round steal. A-

BILLS Filled major needs with strong value picks, including Cal RB Marshawn Lynch in the first round and Penn State LB Paul Posluszny in the second. Third-round QB Trent Edwards of Stanford provides insurance behind J.P. Losman. A-

Draft grades for this class won't be in until 2016 or so... This is moot..

Gettleman drafts for value and BPA. Sometimes need and BPA match (Star) and other times we shake our heads (last year). So let's see how these guys do in the games before we assign good and bad grades.

Honestly, most of the whining comes from people who didn't have their favorite players drafted. That's why we're fans and they are pros.
