Tyler Gaffney Panthers Comparison

Recommended Posts

If I had to choose a Panthers player form the past to compare Tyler Gaffney to, I would have to go with Stephen Davis. In addition to having nearly the same size, they appear to have the same game as well.

The Similarities:

  • Both just over 6 foot.
  • Both around 220ish
  • Both have shorter strides while running. Davis learned to run lower in the NFL, Gaffney hopefully will as well.
  • Both are more straight forward runners, have limited shiftiness, and aren't afraid of contact.
  • Both have the patience to let their blocks develop and follow them well.
  • Stephen Davis selected in the 4th in 1996. That might translate today to the 7th or even an UDFA. Gaffney of course drafted in the 6th.

so is barner cut? or other? seems NO room unless a injury happens. before the draft, ive even heard mike zordich was making the team. plus the numbers at TE dont help either(over full). i did read a few sites had a 4th round grade on him(meh).

Scat back, possibly a replacement for Barner?

I'm not so sure I see the quickness from Reeves to be a scat back. When watching Reaves, first thing you notice is that hes a super patient runner. Reaves is a tweener, has power back qualities but lacks size, and like I said I don't think he's explosive enough to be a home run hitter type back.

Barner's job to lose imo. My hope is that Barner hit the weight room this offseason and added 10 pounds or so.
