I see this year as rebuilding in the since that the team is revamping the old way (large receivers and corners; younger through out from top to bottom).

a) This is the NFL. There is no such thing as a "rebuilding year". You either win with what you have, or you've failed.

 

b. We just went 12-4. You don't fail unless your star leaves and you replace him with crap. Cam is still here.

Kelvin Benjamin is better than any receiver we had on the roster in '13

 

Cotchery is definitely better than Smith, LaFell or Ginn

 

Underwood is not a down grade...if Cam made the guys last year look good he damn sure can do it again this year especilly with another year under his belt. Give our QB some credit everyone acts like he was dealt a super star receiving corps last year, it was an awful group.

 

Why will our D be better? Short and Star aren't rookies. Antoine Cason. Harper, DeCoud. We got better on defense on paper.

dline/pass rush will be better. front 7 will be better and more experienced.  DBs are pretty much just plug and play bc of the guys in front of them. i don't see the defense taking a step back at all. i think they get better.

 

the recileiving corpz absolutely got better just  because we brought in two guys who catch everything thrown their way. benjamin/cotchery/avant >> smith/lafell/ginn as a unit.  

 

you add in underwood and philly who provide a fast deep threat (one of them will rise up) and then the TE class seems to be better so we get cam more targets there.

 

 

the interior of the OL should also be solid thanks to trai getting drafted and the rest of the crowd getting healthy.

 

the only question mark is OT, but even with that, i  don't think it's enough to cause us to move backward.

Factor in injuries,suspensions (we may be facing two), and assorted busts along the way...anything is possible.The same goes for all teams regardless,,they will deal with the same setbacks and this will determine how the season goes. We are not rebuilding,but we are retooling. We will be okay if we stay healthy,and our problem children grow up, We need the second year guys,FA pickups,and draft picks to contribute.Then we can compete with anyone. There is no shaking the magic 8 ball for answers....just a little luck and solid play from 22 guys.

The only thing we need to rebuild is the offensive tackles and Gettleman isn't interested in doing that now. If he's hoping for cuts, he better hope someone good becomes available. I don't like his approach to the 2nd most important position on offense (LT).
