I see this is a rebuilding year

Yep - we're rebuilding other teams offensive lines by completely breaking their will - remember when the giants came and just shutdown our offense : now imagine that reversed. We had the best defensive line in the NFL - bar none depth wise included. Our wide receivers are better than anything we've had in the last 4 years - steve smith will miss us man : this is how you build a wining team - watch as we tear the NFL apart :) this will be beautiful

Well if you factor in our off season cuts it should be clear we want to be competitive but not expecting to win a SB next year

Did the Giants ever go into "win now" mode? They just try to be competitive every year and eventually you get hot and win. They never sold out their draft to win a Super Bowl.

Well, it seems to be realistically we won't be in a good position to win the superbowl until our cap is finally fixed. The good news is we lost very little talent. The secondary and WR positions may have been upgraded while the OL downgraded. The front 7/core of our elite defense is in place and nothing has changed. It probably has gotten better with Kony and the additional experience of our young DTs. We still have alot of work to do on offense and the sucky part is we can't fix it with the amount of dead money we have.

I expect a 8-12 win season depending on how the close games go and how well the offense clicks.

Regarding the Giants 2 super bowl wins.

We have a very similar defense to those 2 superbowl wins. Nasty DL and LB core. The only big difference is they had a pretty good offense to go with their elite defense.

Eli was great during those runs and he had great WRs and run game. The seahawks basically won using the same model but it was their secondary that carried the team rather than the front 7.

I would not say we are rebuilding.  I would more call it a bridge year (as a Red Sox fan I hate that term, any baseball fan knows why).  I think we have such a salary hangover from Hurney, along with the increases in the cap coming, that while things look bright a few years out, we may be looking at a spped bump in '14, it all depends on how G-man does on the one year deals.  I use the term bridge because we are not really rebuilding, the foundation is already in place.  We are simply finding a way to hopefully compete while we get from point A (having a foundation) to point B (having the cash/ability to build around it).  I could see this team going 12-4 again, I could also see a 7-9 or 8-8.  As frustrating as that would be, as long as our cornerstones continues to improve I see us becoming a year in/year out contender during the second half of this decade.

Rebuilding is starting from scratch and we are not

That is not the context of rebuilding I was using. What I was saying is that we are rebuilding our offense and financial structure that will allow allow us to be more competitive in the future. As a result we have let guys like Smitty go that give us a better chance to win next year,

And if you read my post that is what I am saying. I said that I agree with what GMAN is doing but fixing our cap is going to come with a certain amount of pain and sacrifice.

I only read a few posts in this thread and I think we are far from rebuilding.. Last season we had a Super Bowl worthy defense but our passing game wasn't too good. Let's be honest, we had the worst passing game of all the teams in the playoffs. I believe it can only get better not worse. I am looking at the key additions we had in the offseason and draft, and what I see is a team that is ready to compete. Cam will take charge of this offense and I believe KB will become Cams favorite target.
