Are JStew and DWill 1st Rounders in the modern NFL Draft?

Everything is cyclic. Right now it's a passing league where players are getting faster to counter added WR's and get to the QB. The league will de-emphasize run stopping ability at which point RB's, particularly power backs, will hold an advantage and will return as an effect offensive weapon- this elevating their stock...again.

rules are in place to allow WRs to run freely and to protect the QB. these rules will not revert back to the 90s/early 2000s because of health concerns. that, and it's more fun to watch teams air it out.

athletes are also... more athletic nowadays. RBs are now a dime a dozen.

2 years ago 2 rbs went in the first one of which in the top 5. Let's stop acting like it rbs no longer go in the first now

Sent from my iPhone using CarolinaHuddle

And one year later that top 5 pick got traded to another team and still can't break 1000 yards so hurrrrrr

I can't believe the Browns got a 1st rounder back from that blunder.  I'm in even more disbelief that the Colts gave them a 1st rounder after getting a year of NFL tape to see that Richardson should've never been a 1st rounder to begin with, much less a top 5 pick.

Williams would've been a 2nd rounder. Stewart would've gone undrafted, too much injury concern. He was only a first rounder because our team doctor performed the surgery and (mistakenly) insisted he wouldn't be hurt anymore.

I would not under any circumstance take a running back in the first round in this day and age. In the first round you want well rounded players that have more dimension to them. Well it's not worth taking a back that can do it all because one thing the human body is not designed to do is take the punishment subjected to running backs in a consistent basis. Your standard team backfield today is comprised of multiple guys with different niches. They all share that one position, which means none of them will be on the field for the overwhelming majority of plays like a QB or LT, or WR. Guys who have specialized skill sets are always projected later than round 1 or 2 because of their lack of many dimensions. Since you're always better off with a committee of backs, there's no reason to invest such an expense of a first round pick in one.

And then they benched him towards the end of the season lol

I still think they are both late 1st rounders. Both are franchise caliber backs, Or should I say were franchise caliber. Deangelo's cutting ability and vision, Stew's explosiveness, strength and speed combo still make them the better RB's of their class.

Most teams use a "running back by committee" approach nowadays. True featured backs are rare, and 3 down backs are even more rare. Only once-in-a-generation type athletes at RB will be first rounders for the near future. DWill probably would have been a mid 2nd and JStew probably would have been a late 2nd - due to injury concerns.
