to be fair he had more than 800 yards last season, which is about where most RBs peak according to this graph

 

 

True, but he was also the primary featured back, and the chart shows that it's not likely for his numbers to improve next season especially to the point of him being a 1000 yard RB again.  I love Dwill, he was one of my favorite players, but it's time for us to move on.  It's the same situation as  what we did with Smitty, just not enough production to justify the pay, especially when we can save money on his contract by cutting on June 1rst.

If you can find someone better, sure. Are Barner or Gaffney going to replace that production?

In today's NFL, I sure as hell hope we can find someone.  If you're a running back and you can't crack 1000 yards in a season at 6 million bucks a year, you're just flat out not worth it.  Gaffney and Barner might not produce like that, but y'know what, we were 26th in offense last year, and if we decide to keep the same aging players and hope for different results, then shame on us.
