6th Round - Carolina selects RB Tyler Gaffney, Stanford

Guys no joke, this is how im viewing the draft this year. If you completely wipe your memory of rounds 4-7, just pretend we traded away our picks in those rounds and all we had was the first three rounds, then this is one fantastic draft. These last 4 picks are so terrible I absloutley refuse to acknowledge they even occured. In my mind we only drafted three very solid players in this draft. Ealy, Turner and Benjamin. As far as im concerned, we traded away our picks from the last 4 rounds.

Im really starting to think Gettleman just needs to trade picks 4th-7 for a extra 2nd round pick every year. Damn we cant draft worth a crap after the first three rounds.

Seriously guys. With the crap we drafted rounds 4-7, can you honestly tell me what we got is better than reaching for need and drafting nothing but Oline? Why is it so hard for Gettleman to be balanced? Why not draft BPA first three rounds then draft solely on need rounds 4-7, why would that be so wrong?

I wholeheartedly agree with this.  The only late pick that has been worthwhile that we drafted recently, is AJ Klein.  I think Bene will be a good pick up as well, but he wasn't worth the trade up.  We drafted a safety when we have Godfrey, Lester, and Colin Jones.  The crud do we need Tre Boston for?  Gaffney is not a capable running back in this league.  Like someone said, he will probably be a fullback at some point.  I like your strategy for this team.

Solid

Five years ago this kid does not make it past pick 50.

League has changed but young strong backs with good knees are always going to be needed. This kid has some vision, decent hands, and a bit of a mean streak too. I see nothing to complain about.

Stanford kid too. Don't get confused here wuffpupz.. Hahaaa!

You people who can't see past what we did not get to appreciate what we did get obviously haven't the slightest clue how the NFL draft works and how a big board changes constantly. Strategies are fluid. The upcoming season is not the last one to ever be played. Smart GMs don't go for broke.

Oh. And no one finds all the GM must be a moron quips as humorous. Smart people are fully aware that dumb people always seem to take the cheap and easy route. It never fails.

You wait so long for the Panthers to pick their final guy, and they go and pull this crud.  Not only did they waste the pick, but they did so on a guy that doesn't have starter potential.  Gaffney is a guy who was a role player at Stanford, a system guy.  As far as I'm concern, he's different version of Kenjon Barner, who by the way was a wasted pick last year.  If we were going to go running back, why not go after a guy like Storm Johnson?  Someone who has starting potential?  Fortunately, it looks like James Hurst will go undrafted, and perhaps even Antonio Richardson.  I'm confident James Hurst will want to play for the Panthers, but it would be awesome to get both guys.

I was all for Storm Johnson, but here's the reason he wasn't picked: ball security and pass protection issues. If you can't hold onto the ball and can't block, you are up a creek without a paddle in this league.

Is it mandatory that every draft prospect highlight video have "N*gga this... 20 cal that.. B*tches this... F*ckin that... Yolo this.." lyrics?

I use the built-in volume control that YouTube and my phone provides so I can turn down the volume. Problem solved.

I give Gettleman a A- first three rounds, and a big fat F the last four rounds. This is exactly what I would have drafted in rounds 4-7.

Yes, 100%, unapologetic needs based drafting because thats how rounds 4-7 should be. NEED

I honestly think this is a good pick.  I love Deangelo, but he was far to much of a boom or bust prospect.  I think this spells the end for him in Carolina, and we'll go into the season with Stew-Gaf-Tol-Barner.  It'll save 2 mil towards cap on june 1rst, and then push us closer to the post double trouble era which is sorely needed because todays NFL, teams just don't dump tons of money into RB's like they used to.

This entire draft has the makings of one of cap clearing one to give us room for the stars we have upcoming on new contracts.  Kelvin brought in to replace Smitty's roster spot, Ealy brought in to clear up either CJ or Hardy, and Gaffney brought in to replace D-wil.  That will all free up money for Cam/Keek/Star as their contracts come available in the coming years.

He may agree with you had the right players to fill those slots been available.

You are aware of the other 31 teams making picks at the same time from the same pool of players right?
