6th Round - Carolina selects RB Tyler Gaffney, Stanford

would a 6th round OT really have made you guys feel better about the line?

Exactly. You have a 3 round window (IMO) to draft a starting caliber OL. Throwing in a 6th rounder and expecting him to start from day 1 is alot worse than having Bell who has 3 years experience there

Someone pointed out that if you cut Williams that you are on the hook for 4 mil next year. I have a hard time seeing Williams getting cut.

On top of that Stew is always hurt meaning that Gaffney would probably have to start.

So we're gonna carry 4 RBs?

You can draft a running back in the 6th round every year... you can't go into a season with a high school o-line.

Then don't draft o line with busted knees. A high school o lineman is better than one on the sidelines hurt

lol. I asked the question what does Gettlemen think of kugbilla by taking a third round OG?....

And now I ask what does Gettlemen think about Barner by taking this guy. Seriously, this makes 5 RBS.

Amini - Turner - Kalil - Kugbila - Chandler????

And then also gives us a cap hit from him next year. All the June 1st cut does is divide the cap hit between 2014 and 2015 correct?

So this year his cap hit is $6 mil, and cutting him as a June 1st hits us with $4.8mil of dead money, which translates to a $1.2 million in "savings". But next year we would be hit with that extra $4.8 million, which would be pretty ridiculous to have him counting against the cap for 2 seasons where he isn't even on our roster.

That's... not how it works. We'd still take the guaranteed hit from this season, which is $4m and thus a savings of $2m. Then the rest of the guaranteed money hits next year, totaling about $5.6m. That only saves about $750k but would also negate another million he's due next offseason.

Frankly, from a cap standpoint it makes more sense to cut him than it did Smith.
