4th Round - Carolina selects Tre Boston, S, UNC

Tre Boston is a good football player.

At worst he will be great on special teams. He had 94 tackles 8 pass break ups and 5 ints. He excels at zone coverage, struggles in man, but we play a lot of zone.

He was a pretty good WR in high school and has decent hands.

He is far from perfect, but this is the 4th round so...

...and so Hurst was on the board ...so...I love all my Heels I just think this was the wrong one at this time.oh well I haven't been close on a pick yet so why should this one be any different?

I think there's some confusion here. I don't think any of us are saying it's a horrible pick. I think it's very average, and it confuses me more since he said he was drafted to play safety. When is he going to play? Where?

There's a lot of questions with this pick. I'm not saying it's awful. But I'm also not saying that Gettleman is the greatest drafter ever because he got Star and KB.

Been an average draft overall period

Think of it in terms of our 5th round pick last year, AJ Klein. He doesn't see play the first half of the season except on special teams, then Blackburn gets hurt and our defense doesn't miss a beat. Now we have some solid depth at linebacker.

I think Boston will work out the same way. Probably won't see play this season unless he wins out the nickel spot or Harper, DeCoud or Godfrey get hurt. So worst case, this pick provides depth at safety, and best case he and Lester could develop into a good tandem down the road.

I don't think this applies. It one of the starting safeties gets hurt (DeCoud or Harper) then Godfrey or Lester come in. That's your depth. If one of those guys gets hurt, you're probably screwed anyways because you've got a 3rd stringer coming in.
