A Theory on Gettlebro's Strategy for the Offensive Line.

No, reaching for an OT like Moses or Richardson in the second or third just because we have a hole at that position is pretty inexcusable. Once again, G-Man isn't drafting based on needs.

sure sounds nice, but i still want to know what we are going to do to improve the OL?

we may have reaches a little for those guys, but at least we would have done something to upgrade an OL that is in desperate need of improving, and those guys absolutely would have been upgrades. so again i ask, what the hell are we going to do to upgrade the OL, because now the options are the scrubs we have competing for starting spots on our roster, the table scraps that will be cut in the next several weeks, or legit starters that are out of our reach because we spent too much money on other positions.

you want inexcusable? look at the effort to improve the OL we've made this year.

I wonder if he has hit more than any other quarterback because he runs more than any other quarterback and likes to hold onto the ball. And I wonder whether the fact that we were in the middle of the pack in sacks allowed in 2013 might be important to note.. And I wonder how Gettleman who has been here for one year is somehow responsible for the past 3 years and the cap hell he inherited.

Oh that's right he should reach for an OT even though the top prospects were gone and there was much better value elsewhere.

LOL at this kind of logic if you can call it that.

I guess it's inconcievable that there would have been a good value pick at another position in your eyes...yeah, logic.

Also, Cam doesn't do designed runs often, mostly runs when the pocket breaks down and there's pressure in the backfield. But I guess since Cam's our QB we just accept makeshift O Lines.

Also, Cam hit doesn't equal Cam sacked.

My problem with the "well, the Giants did it!" argument is that the NFL has changed since the Giants won their last Super Bowl. The Giants also won the Super Bowl with a statue QB, throwing passes from the pocket. We don't have that.

I like Gettleman. I don't agree with everything he does. But, he's done well so far. My only hope is that he adjusts with the NFL. Hurney never adjusted, and it screwed us in the short, and long, term.

and the Giants suck now.

Alot of times it comes down to luck and where your drafting. This would be a terrible draft to get DTs but we got lucky since we shored it up last year. I am sure DG wanted a quality OT this draft but the sucky part was that all the good OTs in this draft were all high end which meant you needed a top 10 pick to get the good ones.

so the plan is to NOT protect cam?

sounds legit.

actually, from the piss poor effort he's made to bring in pass protectors, this actually does sound like its his plan.

dont get me wrong, i like the guard we picked up but we have crap for tackles and i'm not at all believing that the answer is on our roster. maybe chandler but that would be an even bigger diamond in the rough score than landing cruz as a udfa.

Trust me everyone wants to protect Cam. But wanting to protect him and actually getting the right people to protect him are two different things. We got so lucky in the last draft by getting High value and Biggest need in the first 2 picks. The sucky part is OT was the biggest need in this draft and all the quality guys got picked up. You don't reach with Moses who went in the 3rd rd as your first rd pick. That should tell you how bad the OT drop off was after the first 3 or 4 guys were gone.

Cam Newton has been hit more than any other QB over the past 3 years. Whatever his plan is, it's been crap so far and is unacceptable at the moment.

Look how some of the other teams are drafting for their franchise QBs: linemen and weapons. We drafted a back-up DE in the second round instead of addressing a paper-thin OT situation on an OL that has allowed our supposed feanchise QB to get hit more than any other QB over the past 3 years.

That is when you count both passing AND rushing plays I believe

i'm tired of this whole reaching talk because it makes it sound like there is some monumental disparity in the level of talent when there just isn't.

i'm also tired of the unreasonable bar of expectation there is for positions that we neglect to address. at this point i'm beyond expecting all pro talent at OT. the bar i have set is just improving upon what we have and the truth is there were choices available to us that would have upgraded, but we chose to go another direction.

is protecting cam important? let them prove it. so far they seem content to leave that job to scrubs and table scraps. we seem content to just hope that a starting caliber OT somehow falls to us as a udfa or miraculously gets cut and is somehow affordable.

i just like taking care of big problems, not pushing them to the back burner and hoping that maybe someday the solution just happens to fall in my lap...that is if i haven't deluded myself into believing there is no problem and ignore it.
