A Theory on Gettlebro's Strategy for the Offensive Line.

I honestly have no idea what he's thinking in regard to the O Line.  Turner is an excellent selection and will be a huge upgrade at RG, but allowing Byron Bell to compete with a converted defensive end for left tackle is pretty inexcusable.

typically, when people refer to any "Giants won the SB" arguments it has to do with valuing their pass rush as their major strength on defense.

All of which you just pointed out as to why it's even more ingrained the last few years than it's changed.

so yes, I've been watching. What's your excuse?

Pass rush doesn't dictate the need for size on your CBs and the need to take lesser talent on the oline (never spending a 1st round pick on them, which has been brought up time and time again on here).

The point is, the cutting edge GMs/coaches are the ones who are winning. Schneider, Kelly, Baalke, these are teams that have won in their first year or have established consistent winners.

Even they say the NFL is evolving.

No, reaching for an OT like Moses or Richardson in the second or third just because we have a hole at that position is pretty inexcusable. Once again, G-Man isn't drafting based on needs.

Agreed 100%.

I think that we'll get our RT today and may try and find the LT after cuts in training camp/preseason.

I'm not sure what you're point is..  obviously the NFL is always evolving..  The competition level is unreal.

However, I don't know what any of that has to do with you disagreeing with the Giants philosophy..  Pass rush is still top priority, Panthers have big corners and Safeties, and they haven't invested any 1st round picks into the OL so far...

What am I missing?

Contrary to popular belief, the NFL is NOT evolving. It just goes through cycles (much like our planet and universe). Running QBs and tall DBs have been around since the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, etc.

"always changing" may be more accurate then...

I'm not even talking about the draft.  Creating a situation where two of your crappiest OL from 2013 are competing for the starting LT is inexcusable and unexplainable.

Running QBs, the receiving TE, the large CBs being favored, the move away from one RB to

Multiple (though, that one has been happening for about five or six years), pass rushing Sam LBs in 43 where they were just coverage guys before...

Have you not watched football over the course of the last decade?

Large portion of this already existed. There have been plenty of running QBs in the past.  Although the read-option is a new venture, its use has already faded quite a bit.

There were some elite receiving tight ends when the giants won their first superbowl.  Gates and Tony G immediately come to mind.

Large CBs being favored?  What does that even mean?  Most CBs in the NFL are still under 6-feet tall.  Of course if you have two guys with similar speed and skills, you'd prefer the larger.  Granted, CBs are gradually getting bigger, but so is every position in the NFL.

Cam Newton has been hit more than any other QB over the past 3 years. Whatever his plan is, it's been crap so far and is unacceptable at the moment.

Look how some of the other teams are drafting for their franchise QBs: linemen and weapons. We drafted a back-up DE in the second round instead of addressing a paper-thin OT situation on an OL that has allowed our supposed feanchise QB to get hit more than any other QB over the past 3 years.

I wonder if he has hit more than any other quarterback because he runs more than any other quarterback and likes to hold onto the ball.  And I wonder whether the fact that we were in the middle of the pack in sacks allowed in 2013 might be important to note..  And I wonder how Gettleman who has been here for one year is somehow responsible for the past 3 years and the cap hell he inherited.

Oh that's right he should reach for an OT even though the top prospects were gone and there was much better value elsewhere.

LOL at this kind of logic if you can call it that.

Michael Roos will likely be cut by the Titans now that they've drafted Taylor Lewan. He'd be a good stop-gap LT option for us.

C,mon now. Stop with that kind of logic and join the hysterics spouting gloom and doom.  We know that the draft ends all chance of acquiring players.  LOL

Exactly. I don't know why this concept is so hard for some to grasp.

Drafting for need gets you Sione Fua and Terrel McClain. This fan base seems to have a short memory at times.

so the plan is to NOT protect cam?

sounds legit.

actually, from the piss poor effort he's made to bring in pass protectors, this actually does sound like its his plan.

dont get me wrong, i like the guard we picked up but we have crap for tackles and i'm not at all believing that the answer is on our roster. maybe chandler but that would be an even bigger diamond in the rough score than landing cruz as a udfa.
