First Round sets ratings record

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Thursday's broadcast of the NFL Draft drew ratings that were 50% higher than last year.

Being on two networks helped, but word is the ESPN coverage alone outdrew four NBA and NHL playoff games.

I'd say the May Draft is here to stay.

Please no 4 freaking days!! I really hate the format now. I liked it when round 1 and 2 were together, but its just because I really can't work on the Fridays when the draft starts. I have done absolutely jack all day bc I have been constantly on this site and others trying to find out whats going to happen. Screw Goddell for making me such as slackass

I also think having the guys bring their moms (with Mother's Day coming up) was a hit with fans too.

As far as the format, the league wants Round One to be a prime time event.  That pretty much means it has to stand alone because it just takes too long.  Putting another round or two on the same day would mean fanatics would have to stay up till 3am to coach it all.  So the 'at least three day' format is pretty much permanent.

And, like it or not, I think the May schedule is too.

    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
    • The two point conversion plays were idiotic. They'd been killing them all night running the ball and running run/pass options then they basically played the OTs like they were a pure passing offense. Not putting King on the move with a run/pass option not even once in OT is gonna haunt them.
    • Gotta give the Raiders credit - instead of going for the win they intentionally lose the game to keep a top 3 draft pick in play for them. That is how you tank and wish we could learn a thing or two from them
