Naysayers, give it a rest. At least for awhile. You only have to look at #1 to see hope.

I also don't see all that many people saying he will be a flop.

Why do naysayers have to give it a rest? They might be right and this is a discussion forum for voicing opinion.

Honestly, because it's kind of crazy to dump negativity on a guy who has shown some potential---the pick of a GM who has been lauded as an excellent "scout"---before he even lands in Charlotte, much less before his first season even begins.

To me, even a blind Panthers fan should be able to see that.

Dawg, I get it...  But, in the same breath, you have Benjamin-jocksniffers already singing his praises and saying how he singlehandedly will allow Cam to throw for record yards in a single season.  Then I open another thread and see huddlers completely shitting on the idea of getting Stevie Johnson for a 4th (now no longer a possibility), because they don't want him near Benjamin and ruining him...  lol.  The dude has not even put on a uniform for us yet.  He has not taken an NFL snap.  He isn't AJ Green or Megatron, and he definitely did NOT have their college career.

The issue here is blind homerism is running rampant.  There are some haters, but the homerism is on a another level as well.  I haven't seen it like this in quite awhile, and I've seen it from several people who are usually very reserved and level-headed.

Each of the last three drafts prior to this one, I locked in early on one guy that I wanted and KNEW without a doubt in my amatuer opinion, would be absolute beasts in the NFL - Cam, Luke, and Star.  And I was right on each of them...  This was before any of them were really mocked to us.

This year, for what it's worth, I have repeatedly said, I did not want Benjamin.  I just don't trust him and there is a lot of hype around him because of the Nat'l Championship.  When I've watched him play, I am not impressed.

Could be, and hopefully for our team's sake, that I finally got it wrong with this draft.  I still am not happy with the pick, but honestly, at #28, how many options did we have?  So, now I'm hoping for the best.  But, honestly, the hate and the homerism is kind of negating one another.

I don't get the "hate" thing at such an early stage in Benjamin's career, and what you call "homerism" appears to me to be more akin to having faith in G-man's ability to make a good pick, or at least being hopeful that the great potential that most everyone who knows football said that Benjamin possesses manifests itself (notwithstanding some degree to become a bust).

I don't care who we had picked (and will pick), to me it's a natural time for optimism. Let's save Benjamin's genuine critiquing after we have a body of his professional work to judge.

Heres's my honest take on the whole situation (which isn't worth much).

Can KB be a beast? Absolutely.

Was he the best pick for the panthers at that spot?  The more I think about it, probably.

Will he bust?  Maybe.

KB has complete boom or bust potential, and there is no way for anyone to know at this point in the process.  People need to be excited, but reserved. The over the moon reaction, and the comparison to Cam isn't fair to him.  Look, at some point, we won't get a homerun with a first rounder, it happens to everyone.  We're just on a good streak right now, and if that guy that that fails to meet lofty expectations is KB, then so be it, don't crucify the front office.  That said, the undeniable fact is that Kelvins ceiling is as high, if not higher than anyone in this draft.  Like Gettleman said, you can't coach 6-5 240, only a few people at his position possess his skill set, and it fits the bill of what Cam needs at that position, because he's not a needle threading QB, the bigger the target, the better.

TL;DR: He could be great, he also could fall, whatever the case, he's a Panther, and he best resembles what we were looking for in a target for Cam.

This completely summarizes my thoughts about this pick!
