Naysayers, give it a rest. At least for awhile. You only have to look at #1 to see hope.

Remember the draft process that eventually netted us our franchise QB?

The young man has a huge amount of upside, but is still raw and inexperienced. He has had some off-field issues in the past, so may be viewed by some with a raised eyebrow, and he certainly hasn't been a media darling before the draft. Perhaps one could say that he has been even misunderstood at times.  But he seems humble at his core, notwithstanding coming off a national championship where he was a key player, and he is a proven winner, albeit only for one year on the grand stage.

Does any of that sound kinda familiar?

Now let's get him into camp under the tutelage of some great coaches so that he can hit the ground running.

The Newton-Benjamin connection has beastly potential for the next decade. Be patient, let the process play itself out, and watch the relationship bloom.  You've seen Cam continue to grow the last three seasons, and so it will be with Benjamin for the coming three. G-man knows how to pick a winner. Proehl knows a thing or two about receiving, and Rivera knows how to inspire a team to win.  Benjamin's addition will only facilitate success.

Be Happy Don't Worry!!  Future looks like a lot of smiles to me,  that down hill passing

is a thing of the past,  the guys we got now can go up and get them.

Last season was a lot of fun this one is shaping up to be even better.

Well said...I love Benjamin, and have been hoping he was the pick for months now.  We struggled too much in the red zone last season, hence the numerous 4th down conversion attempts.  We need a guy Cam can just toss it up to and let him get it.  As much as I like Olsen, he is not that guy.  I think Benjamin is...and am ecstatic that we nabbed him!

I guess people just forgot how uncomfortable they were when we picked Cam in 2011. They came up with a lot of question marks, and it's more of a boom or bust selection than say, the safe picks you were used to Hurney making.

Even if KB turns out to be a bust (I think he succeeds) Gettleman's mentality is sound. No the giants didn't hit on every single first rounder they picked but they ended up winning two superbowls because a lot of the risks they took paid off. People had the same concerns about JPP when he came out, and his presence paid off in 2011 when the Giants won the big game at the end of the season. Gettleman's from that academy.

One thing that I would like to add is that Benjamin is probably perceived as a very safe pick in G-man's eyes, not o lay because G-man is extremely confident in his ability as a talent evaluator, but also because he knows that we have the staff to help bring out the best in our new receiver. He seems light years ahead of Hurney in overall confidence and security.

Dawg, I get it...  But, in the same breath, you have Benjamin-jocksniffers already singing his praises and saying how he singlehandedly will allow Cam to throw for record yards in a single season.  Then I open another thread and see huddlers completely shitting on the idea of getting Stevie Johnson for a 4th (now no longer a possibility), because they don't want him near Benjamin and ruining him...  lol.  The dude has not even put on a uniform for us yet.  He has not taken an NFL snap.  He isn't AJ Green or Megatron, and he definitely did NOT have their college career.

The issue here is blind homerism is running rampant.  There are some haters, but the homerism is on a another level as well.  I haven't seen it like this in quite awhile, and I've seen it from several people who are usually very reserved and level-headed.

Each of the last three drafts prior to this one, I locked in early on one guy that I wanted and KNEW without a doubt in my amatuer opinion, would be absolute beasts in the NFL - Cam, Luke, and Star.  And I was right on each of them...  This was before any of them were really mocked to us.

This year, for what it's worth, I have repeatedly said, I did not want Benjamin.  I just don't trust him and there is a lot of hype around him because of the Nat'l Championship.  When I've watched him play, I am not impressed.

Could be, and hopefully for our team's sake, that I finally got it wrong with this draft.  I still am not happy with the pick, but honestly, at #28, how many options did we have?  So, now I'm hoping for the best.  But, honestly, the hate and the homerism is kind of negating one another.

Even though I don't really agree with you and actually like the pick, this is a good post. Really just hoping for the best now.

    • And he still has one more win and a $110M contract, go figure?
    • People looking at the offense negatively need to step back a minute and remember that expectations were mighty low this year. We have a lot of young guys and rookies. And our qb is a newby in the system he is in with a new coach who has never been a head coach and signal caller combined.  This is a work in progress so only an approach which recognizes incremental improvement is valid for best measuring where we are versus  demanding immediate success after a 2-15 campaign last year.
