Draft Build Up

Mr. Scot

Many people I know who are sports fans have expressed similar opinions. It has nothing to do with the players, but more the delay and over analysis.

I've heard plenty of people complain about the date change (Lord knows our culture hates delayed gratification) but I've also heard those same people chomping at the bit to see what happens tonight.

Whether or not it was a calculated move, it's successfully put a load of football fanatics on the edge of their seat.

Yeah. It's Christmas in May.

Wouldn't it be nuts if we all stayed up to watch the pick, and the Panthers traded back into the second round.  LOL

I like the old draft format much better.

Guessing you mean the date, because I'd say the actual format changes are for the better.

Used to be the Draft didn't start till the weekend.  The first three rounds were all on one day - usually Saturday, starting around Noon - and the last four the next.  Heck if you go back far enough, you'll find drafts done on Sunday and Monday.  The time allowed for picks was longer too (15 minutes in Round One, 10 in Round Two).

When they moved it to prime time, they also shortened the time between picks.  With 32 teams picking, I gotta say that was a smart move.

Agree with reducing time for rd 1 picks to 10 minutes. I like the sat / sun draft better. Used to meet-up with the boys for several hours. It's not the same with everything spread over 3 days, especially during the week.

My best memories of the draft were going to Merlefest and I would stay in the campground on Saturday and listen to bluegrass and the draft on the radio while smoking a pork shoulder.

I can only imagine what is going on through this kid's mind today. I know they are excited while some probably nervous. I was just thinking about how excited I am for the draft and just wondered what could be going through their minds at this point. Some players pretty much know they are guranteed to be picked while some is hoping someone takes a chance. Either way, lives will change tonight. I can't wait to watch it tonight.

I actually much preferred it when it was all on the weekend.

Red carpet coverage, interviewing guys and their moms, announcing the attendees to music and lights, people dressed like they're going to the Oscars, and Heaven knows how many people are watching?

My word

Said it elsewhere.  A long time ago this was just a bunch of old guys sitting in a room reading off names.  Now it's so huge, it's ridiculous.
