Uh bc he is potentially better and Barner is not untouchable.

 

Barner was twice as productive as Thomas in the exact same system at Oregon.  Mamba is nothing like Shady McCoy and he's even smaller and lighter than Barner. He really only offers value as a returner in the NFL. A Storm Johnson or James White would be much better RB prospects if its a RB you want.

Why would you draft Thomas after we just drafted Barner?

 

You would do it because you think Thomas is better. The same reason we signed Ted Ginn and canned Joe Adams.

I think Thomas can be a dynamic player in the proper situation. But think about the Panthers, our coordinator is Mike Shula. Is Mike Shula going to use a guy like that? Does he even know how? Dave Gettleman is Mr. "Big men allow you to compete" Is he going to want a tiny man carrying the rock?

 

A creative offensive mind can find ways to get him the balls but a lot of these little guys struggle to put up consistent production because their gimmicky.

BTW, I see the Chip Kelly angle but they just signed Darren Sproles to go with Lesean McCoy.
