Curious as to what qualifies you to provide "proper evaluation" on a prospect?

Not calling you out, but I see this a lot and it usually makes be chuckle.

Calling him out is exactly what you're doing.

I said already I wouldn't agree with the pick. But it wouldn't be the first time that's happened and it won't be the last.

Like I said, I'd hope they were right. I prefer to reserve my "told you so"s until something either works out or doesn't.

I'd also remind myself that media draft grades don't necessarily match up with team draft grades.

Scot how does that work?

Telling somebody you told them so when you didn't voice your opinion in the 1st place.

I'll just eat crow when I'm wrong but definitely voice my opinion if I don't agree.

It begins with acknowledging that they work in the business and I don't.  That comes with the understanding that they have access to info I'll never see.

They may still make a bad decision (Hurney made plenty of 'em) but right or wrong, their decision will have been more informed than mine was. I also know that they're working from a draft philosophy with which I agree, so that's good.

If I ultimately don't like the choice, I'll say so.  And then within a very short period of time I'll say that I hope they're right and I'm wrong,  It won't be the first time either of those things has happened.

I could spend a load of time complaining about something I can't change, or I can hope for the best.  In my younger days I's probably have done a lot of the former.  These days I tend toward the latter.

It's that simple.

NFL.com has some good stuff on him as well:

STRENGTHS

Outstanding size, girth and overall body mass. Good hand placement. Can steer and control blockers once he gets his hands on them. Very patient pass protector. Matches up very well vs. size and power (see Alabama). Battle-tested, experienced four-year starter in the SEC. Outstanding personal and football character. Very smart, mature and highly respected.

WEAKNESSES  Raw footwork. Has a lot of heaviness in body and can improve sustain. Lumbers to the second level and struggles to cut off and adjust to moving targets. Does not roll off the ball with power and generate strength or movement in the run game. DRAFT PROJECTION  Rounds 2-3 BOTTOM LINE  Big, strong, heavy pass protector with good balance, anchor strength and hand use to handle power and speed. Does not affect the run game the same way and almost appears more destined for the left side in the pros. Has instant-starter potential.

I respect the opinion of someone like Medlinheel who watches games to form his own opinion much more than those who just read scouting reports and take them for gold. While he's no pro scout, nor is anyone else on the internet..

No need to be an ass about it. His opinion is as good as anyone else's on here and if you disagree then block him or counter his argument with some logic of your own. We are all fans of the same team so I never understood the talking down to each other

Anyway I am not trying to start an internet battle here, just got annoyed at your response. So I apologize in advance if I too am coming across as an Ass.

Why would it be just for me? I'm just trying to talk this out. He isn't chopped liver but how many 1st round tackles are there realistically and where does James fit in?

For you because you asked the question.  Anyway, I could see James being a "tweener" in the sense that he could probably be legitimately drafted somewhere between late first and early second round without too many people who know football raising an eye. He was already considered by some to be a better prospect than Tiny Richardson, and I don't think anyone would flip if someone would call his name before a guy with a surgically repaired knee like Kouandjio. He's not necessarily a first round guy in this relatively deep draft class, especially when scouts get happy over the "potential" of the top guys, but James is definitely rated somewhere between 6 and 10, and probably has mindset to go along with his bulk and strength to develop into a solid lineman for years to come, and reportedly even LT.

Guys like Moses (who is massive), James, Mewhort, Turner and Bitonio are kind of in that tier 2 range.  I only see tough decisions coming into play if all the top guys are gone.  People may not admit it, but if it comes down to those guys at tackle, and guys like Matthews, Robinson and Adams at WR, then G-man's decision at 28 just isn't that cut and dried. He will have to choose who he thinks will be the best fit---the BPA.  I know he likes players that can make an impact right away, and if he deems that James can do that better than the rest then who knows?
